Not even sure if interchangeability is a word... anyway, I did a little searching around and couldn't really find what I'm looking for.

My question is, does anyone know of a resource that has which wheels will fit on which bikes? Or is that even a possible document to create? Basically I'm wondering if there are some wheels from a random year of a Ducati sport bike, like a 999 or something, that would fit on my 98 M900.

Any easy way to tell all of this, not only for me, but for other people that might be interested in other wheels? If it's a waste of time of a question just disregard my naiveness Roll Eyes

999 would take some work if not impossible due to axle sizes

Supersport wheels would work

ST are the same as well

I think the Sport Classics as well.

spacers would likely be the only changes for most

I'm pretty sure the '98 M900 has small front and rear axles.

There are SS and 851 (possibly 888) wheels that would bolt up, but they're the same as what you've got right now.

Later model wheels would need bearing and/or spacer work.

Depends what kind of swap you're looking for.... bolt up or fabricate to fit?

What about S4 wheels on a 695? I know the S4s are bigger, but i don't know about the axle. I can't think of many DSS ducs without the 3 spoke brembos.

REAR WHEELS

ST4s, S4 have 5-spoke Marchesini with 25mm axle, same as 695.

SS1000 has 5-spoke Marchesini with 17mm axle, it would fit the OP's bike.

AFAIK, that's it for OEM 5-spoke DSS rear wheels.

Fair warning, there's chainline issues to be addressed when going to the wider wheels.
You need the wide sprocket carrier.
The chainline won't match up with the rub strip on the steel 695 swingarm.

FRONT WHEELS

ST4s, S4, S4R, SS1000, and a pile of SBK's have 5-spoke Marchesinis.

AFAIK, they're all 25mm axle.

Direct swap with all 3-spoke 25mm axle.

25mm front axle bearings are 2mm narrower than the 20mm with the same outer, so 20mm bearings in a 25mm axle wheel stick out 2mm too far each side.  17mm front axle wheels are smaller bearing od.

i think 999 rear axle is 30mm?  6006 bearing maybe, 25mm is 6005.

there's a lot of variations, esp in post 2000 stuff.

749 rear axle is 20mm. There are ALOT of 749/999 rear wheels on fleabay, for around 250$ and cheaper. To bad they don't match up.

749 rear axle is 30mm like a 999.  they're the biggest of the dss axles.

the 999 front is 25mm, but the brake disc offset is different and they're 5 screw discs so you can't fit something else in their place.

for 5 bolt 10mm offset you can use 796 brake rotors.

999 are 5 bolt, the original forks are 15mm offset

the 998R was the first to use the 15mm offset, albeit 6bolt rotors, hence the reason I'm running those for my 1198 forks on 696 wheel

So from what I'm understanding, for my '98 the only swap that would result in a different look would be to look for the 5 spokes from SS1000's? But even then, I wouldn't have any luck on the front wheel because of the small axle size?

I've got a set of re-sprung SHOWA's with bigger axle for sale in the classifieds if you opt to go that route.

You are correct.

However, if you're *really* dead-set on some wheel swapping, I've heard of 2 different guys in Europe who have put CBR600 wheels on Monsters.  If doing a google-search won't help you, I know I can't...  But I've seen it.  Those are 6-spoke wheels.
