This is looking great.

Unfortunately, it ISN'T finished - and I'm not the most patient person in the world. I'm very keen to see how this looks finished.  applause

Paint is polyeurothaine with a  2 part epoxy clear.

Forks are painted...same, I'm hoping that teflon tape or something similar will aid in getting them into the triples with as few nicks as possible. (any adivce other than taking it easy, I'm open to)

And the ARMY blanket is mine!  Bought and paid for with 12 years so far...the final 8 shouldn't be to bad.   Maybe I'll get more than a blanket out of it.

You'll scuff the hell out of the paint on the forks no matter how you do it.

the only way to color the fork tubes is to disassemble them and have the tubes hard anodized a different color.

but.....since you've already painted them...  Good luck.

One thing to try re: the forks is taking a few clothespins, disassemble them so it's just the two pieces of wood, and wedge them into the triples to spread the openings up a bit.  Looking schweet  waytogo

I have nothing but time....I'll try the clothes pins...I'll try taking my time, I have touch up paint to add the "hey look at my mess" idea.

Thanks guys.

Hey, thinking of which, I put my frame back on the engine yesterday, tightened everything up and there is vertical play in the mounting.  Is this normal?  I stopped there before I mounted the swingarm, rear shock, and triples.  Will that play go away when I get everything mounted and off the engine stand?

mine has a little play too. i think its normal untill you tighten it down. But then i drilled out my rear mount from 10mm to 12mm cause i kept snapping bolts. Less play now

ok i didnt see that you had tightened everything down. Have you torqued everything to spec? Im talking frame only, no suspension hooked up. When i would get my bolts snug there would be a tad of verticle play. but it disappeared as i torqued, of course from the friction. I would check the holes for out of round. The monster rear motor mount bolts tended to loosen over time. That could cause the engine case or frame holes to become out of round. Good luck.

Nice job...can't wait to see the finished cycle.  I don't know why, but I get excited looking at these threads when somebody is taking things apart and putting them back together.   Grin

Outstanding work!!  Good on you for taking it on, and for your family for pitching in too!

Out of curiosity, where are you posted?  Let me know if you ever get assigned to the aviation regiment here at Wheeler (on Oahu).  We are always looking for another Ducati to go riding with.  Wink
