Author Topic: Has anyone here ever repacked Arrow mufflers  (Read 1811 times)

I have the Arrow shotgun style carbon mufflers on my S4R. I bought them used. It may just be my imagination but the mufflers seem to be getting louder. In any event I'd like the option of repacking them should the need arise. Has anyone here done this, specifically with Arrow mufflers? I asked Bellissimoto to ask Arrow if they have any kits for such, but I'm asking here as well for any FHE. Need to know if a standard pop rivet tool will suffice or am I going to need to buy a specific rivet tool. The Arrow's rivets look to be a specific wide flange type. I also need new springs. Thanks

I repacked silmotos which are essentially the same thing. Used FMF packing.

Remove rivets
Remove end caps
Pull out the perf tube
Pull out old packing
Wrap packing around perf tube or stuff packing in can, whatever you fancy
Install perf tube
Install end cap with high temp silicone
Install rivets

Revzilla has a good write up on it if you search on google.

It appears the Arrow shotgun style for the single swingarm bikes use a rivet that has a wider flange which is what is concerning me. I have a pop rivet tool, but will that work in this instance is what I'm wondering. Like do I have to buy a pack of special rivets and a special rivet tool? I cored my stocker S2R cans & packed with perf tubing & fiberglass and also did a couple of other members' mufflers like that so the actual repacking process is familiar. It's just the actual parts I'm curious about. So do Arrow mufflers for S*R bikes use proprietary rivets?

They're not exactly proprietary, but they are different from the average pop rivet.

Search for 3/16" large flange closed end stainless rivets. 1/4" grip range will be plenty. If you can do 3/16" rivets with your tool it will work for any rivet

That might work, but the thread depth would be far less than the industry standard requirement of one thread diameter. I suppose you could tack weld some stainless nuts to the core to overcome that hurdle.

I went ahead and bought the kit from Arrow. Should arrive in a year or two. Knowing the typical nature of these things and also the tendency for sameness to not be maintained with regard to Italian parts & such it might show up with different rivets anyway. Time will tell as it keeps on slippinslippinslippin...into the future
