Anyone know of any mid pipe kits available? So far I've only found two available, one from Kamna and one from QD. I have also been looking for a stocker to have modified.
Despite the cleaner look and weight loss, I'm guessing the performance improvement may only be obvious on a dyno compared to the stock system with flapper valve deactivated. I have noticed a difference between valve operating vs valve deactivated with the stock system during road testing. There was a change both in volume and power characteristics, but not from a major performance viewpoint.
What I can say is that the device is not a true Exup valve for performance but a noise management device for the EPA rpm noise test. It is a noise cheater valve and it might be cool to control it with a switch for, ahem, those times when you need it. Grin Otherwise it is unwanted weight, clutter and complexity.

Update.
I ordered the Kamna version after reading some articles about how rough it is inside the oem exhaust section housing the valve. I figured that the cost would be similar to modifying a stocker and buying a spare (always keep your stock exhaust).
I'll let you know how it goes.

You are shaming me into wanting to swap my midpipe for the 696 (no flap) pipe...  Shots

If it has a stock tune, I would consider a reflash/tune after the mod. According to some opinion, the flapper, even when open, causes more restriction and turbulence then one would think. It might be worth doing the mod as a package. At least the closed loop will adjust for it.

It arrived. Installation was fiddly and a lot slower than oem, a pita the first time. That's another kg off and much cleaner. I'll test ride it tonight. Reports on line say there is an improvement in low rpm smoothness and response. I guess that only a dyno would show an improvement in peak power

And the Kamna mid pipe is the QD pipe.

Btw, the mid pipe fitted my Termi slip ons fine once I had the correct orientation on the oem header pipes.
I'm tempted to have the link pipe sections tig welded into a one piece part.

A close comparison of the midpipes shows the QD pipe has the 2 into 1join a few inches earlier and the single pipe to the mufflers longer and a slightly different diameter.  The welds are smoother and the inside diameter smoother. It also appears some attention has been given to overall length of the system and not just each section.

Test ride update.

The bike in question has significant intake mods and dyno tuning. The pipe has made the bike run smoother at low speed, while cruising and winding on acceleration with quicker response (it was already great). The motor actually sounds smoother with the note slightly changed, possibly a little quieter and more even. The motor sounds like there are fewer misfires. The revs climb quicker and more evenly (they were quick enough already).

This leads me to think that there is some truth to the valve butterfly, pipe diameter steps and rough welds causing some turbulance/eddying affecting running.

In conclusion, I think it's worth doing if you like your tune to be "just so".

Nice!

I've always thought the butterfly assembly had to be doing something with flow... it's simple aerodynamics.

After I put my slips on, it was like the engine didn't have to work as hard to shove all that exhaust gas out, it idles better, it motors better... it certainly accelerates better.  I think after I fit the 696 pipe on, I'll take my extra ECU down to AMS and have it remapped.  Assuming it works out, that's likely the last mod I'll do to it... unless I find a set of Adreanni fork internals cheap.

waytogo I was surprised that I felt the difference and I have to ride carefully as the bike accelerates over the speed limit very quickly.

I did the forks, springs and oil, now I'm doing the shock as the fork work highlighted how bad it was. New used shock with revalve, service and new spring in progress.

Looking forward to hearing about your results.
