RIP Nicky

Same old line that we've heard before...
Can't win the championship in the first race, but sure can lose it.

Good to see Fabio getting his first win.

Everyone on the podium looked like they had indeed been baked at 300 degF for 40 minutes.
I do not closely follow the training of those 3, but seeing all of them so absolutely fried is remarkable.
Really small track with MotoGP bikes and furnace conditions.

I was surprised that Jack didn't burn off a tire real bad, he did well almost finishing ahead of Dovi in a tire-critical race.

Lots of good things being said about Binder.

We have wrapped the first race.
Everyone knew what the schedule target was, 13 races in 18 weekends.
MM out with a broken arm.
Rins biffs it and crushes his shoulder.
Cal breaks his scaphoid, and I don't think he's got many fvcks to give, he'll go home and play with his daughter.
There is a not-small chance all these guys could be done for the season, if not for good.

Marc's arm break was ugly.
As he and the bike slid into the dirt, he dug in and slowed down, bike did not.
So it tagged him with the spinning front tire.
Unforced error.
I'm not an ortho, but the riders are basically doing a pushup with a bulldog backpack on for near every corner.
Are Dr. Mir n Co doing immediately fully load bearing repairs?
My hot take is he's out til at least Austria #1.
Quick study of a few previous years has found high correlation between giving up ~30 points in the first two races and finishing the season outside the top 10.

Petrucci bounced hard, but soldiered on to do OK considering the heat and riding a Duc.

This is quickly becoming a war of attrition, so those who don't hit the deck a lot or at least bounce well could do handsomely.
But usually Cal and Marc bounce really well so maybe that's off the table.

Oh yeh how fvcked is HRC right now Taka 10th Alex 12th oops that's it.
Taka's on a plain vanilla '19 so of little to no use to furthering the HRC cause.
Alex has no credibility to speak of at the moment.

I'm considering a small wager on Tito.

With that in mind, 1/4, Mav and Dovi have their best chance  unless Jack or one of the Suzuki boys steps up.

D. Emmett's take on Marc

"He landed heavily, but that was not the worst of it. On his way through the gravel, the wheel of his Honda slammed into his right arm, snapping his humerus, the bone in the upper arm. The damage was so severe that he is to be taken to the Dexeus Institut in Barcelona for surgery to put a pin in the bone to hold it together. There is a fear there could be nerve damage too, though the doctors won't know until the initial swelling and bleeding subsides in the damaged tissue around the break. They will only really know the full extent of the damage once they have Márquez open on the operating table.

In the best case scenario, Márquez is out for four to eight weeks. In the extreme case, Márquez might try to come back for Austria, or perhaps even Brno, though he is unlikely to be able to ride to anything like his full potential. A more likely scenario is he is back for Misano on September 13th. Either way, he would have missed somewhere between two and (more likely) five races in the season. The championship is out of the question for Márquez. His title defense never got off the ground.

In the worst case scenario, Márquez has nerve damage as well as a fractured humerus, and requires surgery and a long period of rehab to try to reverse the damage. That would rule him out for the entire 2020 season, and in the most extreme case, threaten to end his career.

It wouldn't be the first time his career was under threat from injury, of course. In 2011, Márquez crashed on a wet track when marshals at Sepang failed to wave the yellow flags in time when there was water running across the track. Márquez crashed, suffered nerve damage in his eye, and had surgery to correct the problem. It took him four months to be certain he would race again."

Head games. He doesn’t want the others to even think of beating him.
