MA has pretty strict rules overall (not just motorcycle related!).

Personally I'm glad that cars aren't driving around like they do elsewhere.  Falling apart, no lights, etc....

Would like a little more leeway with the lighting on the bikes though.  Hand signals ought to be sufficient.

Am I too late to join in on the fun? Evil

I attempted this 3 years ago on my S2R1K and boy was I in for a surprise. Doing the electrical wiring is not for the faint of heart. You will need to flash your ECU to unlock your guages in order for this to work. Theres some kind of circuitry in there (the immobolizer namely but i have no clue how it works) that prevents you from simply hacking it apart.

When i start digging into the system, I found that there were several systems that could be cut off and separated so I did that first. These systems were the blinkers, stop lights and headlights.

When I cut them out I could manipulate them to work with my switches, but the bike refused to start. I tried to diagnose it for months to no avail. Eventually I realized that the immobolizer might have something to do with it. The issue is that I would like to disable the immobolizer but my ECU is unlocked and i have a custom map flashed onto my bike ( i have a 2012 1100 EVO motor in an 06 S2R1K). I am deathly afraid of sending my ECU somewhere in fear of losing my map. So I bought another harness off of ebay and threw that in.

If you have better luck, by all means, im ears!

Also hello to everyone that I've missed over the years! Hope you are all doing well!

Would you happen to know anything about the front fork on your bike? Looks like a fork from a later Monster 1200R.

I have been working on a similar project, got the Munit blue and the Mbuttons working as intended. got rid of a lot of wiring cluster in the front of the bike.
Is it worth it? if you like to work with wires and like a clean looking bike, probably yes, if you don't enjoy or don't understand electrical system probably no.

Still a BIG mess under the tank tho. I have a strippet down harness waiting to be installed after I get my ECU flashed so that will solve the clutter under there

The thing I really hate about the 2000s monsters is how the wiring harness wraps around both sides of the steering stem. We had a 620 that when the bars were full left, the ignition cut out.  Undecided That sucked to troubleshoot. I'm not sure if that bike was ever fixed, really.

You got bawls. I would never send my ECU that far away. I know there are a few local shops who do it. Im not sure if there is a DIY method. I also know that there are two types of unlocks.

One of the unlocks allow you to write to the ECU, the other unpairs it from the immobilizer. When i swapped to the m1100 evo motor, I unlocked my ECU to write a new map directly onto my ECU but it did not get disconnected from my immobilizer.

the first time I ever put a front end back together and went for a test ride got the bars full turned one direction and it would pull the throttle cable and stick it full open  laughingdp whoops.

Sadly, suzyj hasn’t been here since 2016.  Hope she is OK.

Yah, I’m fine. Moved from rural WA to Perth last year, not riding the duc terribly much, but it still starts first time every time when I do Smiley

When we moved I flew back to pick up the bike, and rode it 450km to the new place. It was absolutely bloody exhausting with the clipons, and I ended up with the worst sunburn of my whole life across the top of my arse where there was a gap between my jeans and jacket.

Here’s a pic of my baby on the way:
