Hello all,
I took my 2008 S2R 1000 out of winter hibernation yesterday = very exciting!
I started it and let it run while I put my gear on to take her for a rip. By the time I went outside, the bike was puring and sounded great.
I went to sit on it and all of a sudden, the idle/RPM speed started to very slowly decrease until it just stopped.
I tried to start it again but no luck.
I then dumped a very small amount of gas into the air intake for each cylinder and it started up for a few seconds and then died again. It seems to not be getting any gas.
I can hear the gas pump turn on when I turn my keys on so I dont think it is the pump. Could it be the filter? If so, I believe that this is inside the tank. Can anyone point me to what they think the cause may be and if it is the filter, is there a how to on this forum to show me what to do? Also, where to do I purchase a fuel filter from?
It could also be the fuel injectors are plugged I guess.
What do you all think it could be?

Simple and cheap first. Fuel filter is a maintenance item so it won't hurt to change it. Also inspect the fuel lines while you are in there.

I just went to double check the bike because I read on this forum that the fuel pump my be bad. When I turn on the bike I do not hear the fuel pump engage. I don't believe this is normal. If the pump is primed already, you would at least hear it turn on right?

Yes, the pump should prime with every key cycle. You may have bad wiring where the wires enter the pump flange. |

Thanks ducpainter  Before I take out the fuel pump, should I check the relay? If so, where would that be located? I assume just follow the wire? Once I do take out the pump, what am I looking for? g |

I checked all my fuses. I also checked the relays (they are clicking like normal).
I pulled out one of the gas lines from the fuel pump and tried to crank the bike,,,,no gas came out.
I just took off my tank and pulled out the fuel pump.
Not sure what I'm looking for...
Do I order a new pump? I dont know where to get relays or pumps from...or filters.
Ideas?

Just for the heck of it, I plugged the fuel pump (now out of the tank) into the plug and turned my key....pump primed perfectly. Faulty wiring I guess.
I see that the S2R's had faulty wiring where the wires go into the pump. I peeled back the rubber boot and the plugs all go into a black piece of plastic it looks like. I also see that there is a kit from Cycleworks.
What are my next steps?

You have a bad connection where the wiring enters the pump flange. It's common. Search the forum for 'S2R fuel pump wiring'.
Your pump is fine.

Hello,
The good news is that my bike ran for approximately 50 miles after replacing the Fuel flange. The bad news is that it again will not start. It cranks over but the fuel pump once again does not prime.
Suggestions?
