Plug Caps and Plugs. Resistors.

It's been my understanding that using resistor plugs negates the need for resistor caps and visa versa. I have also heard that one should match the resistance rating of the cap with the plug, eg if one is 5 ohms then the other should be. I am of the former position although I have not personally seen ill effects of doubling up, although others have warned of this. Maybe it restricts the flame kernal, or stresses a coil as sone have said? Compatible components or doubling up, what say you?

The resistor caps alone are not enough to suppress noise. The idea of the resistor caps is to allow the use of solid core (real) wire instead of the less reliable cloth impregnated carbon wires often used by Japanese and American manufacturers. The old thumb of rule was 6K ohms/foot of wire. Modern rule of thumb is 7K. Total should be no more than 18K. You would get away with less resistance on your carbie bikes, but nearby vehicles and homes would not be too happy.

My copper wire core leads also thank you. Im running NGK 5ohm caps with NGK DPR8EA-9 plugs.
I can settle some arguments now especially with those "rule of thumb" figures (ironic on International Women's Day).
Cheers.
