Hi,

I have an issue with the speedo on my 1999 Ducati Monster 600 Dark. The trip and speedo work fine but the odometer (the total mileage coutner) doesn't work. Can anyone help me with this problem or give some insight? I have owned the bike for about 4 months now and didn't notice this until I got it home.

If it needs to be replaced, can I replace it with one with a revcounter (mine doesn't have one). A friend has a '99 Monster 900 which does have this, although his isn't a Dark.

Thanks!

It likely needs replacing.

On a 99 your choices are wide open, as it has no immobilizer.

You could upgrade to an OEM dual gauge, or an aftermarket unit, like a Spa, that has a tach built in.

Would any instrument cluster work or does it have to be one from the same generation?
And the adding of a rev counter, would I need to install anything for that or is it just plug-and-play into the old one?

I'm not positive, but there will likely be connector differences between generations.

You'll need to make some connection at the ignition to get a tach to work. That will depend on the type of unit you decide on. If you need to connect to an ignitor, use caution. The connectors are pretty fragile, and replacements are expensive.

No, regarding odo, will just show actual RPM.

You said you do not have a rev counter?!?
You have 2 options: 1. Electronic via ignition, minor cable wiring needed. Quite rare to find, many also function badly.
Mechanical wire driven , like 90`s SS models. You need an outlet in cylinder head, it`s driven via cam gear.
Not so easy getting parts for that.

Try find replacement speedo, easiest way out.
