Dear All,

Have replaced the front cylinder ignition pick up (open circuit) of a 1973 M900  with an Electrex P8 with sparks now restored however, the spark gradually deteriorates to zero as the revs. rise, pick up gap to the flywheel triggering lug set to 0.025ins. to be the same as that of the rear cylinder.

Any one out there experienced this ?

I cannot call Electrex for their advice at the moment as out on the hills with the Argocat weekdays and hence well out of mobile reception.

Thanks for any advice received.

I'd check the wiring terminals at the ignition coils, they can loosen over time and provide odd ignition behavior.

Thanks Lads, problem solved.
Connection was made as per Electrex diagram, i.e. pickup brown and white to harness red and white respectively giving a spark at low revs. then petering oot as the revs. increased. Whoever wired the pickup must have been colour blind or inebriated from the night afore, reversing the connections at the ignition module decreased the Monster's value 100 fold - Super Mono no longer ! - although a very occasional misfire still present.
Side case off once more and the pickup gap set to 10 thou. rather than 25 and the strobe. light on the front plug lead showed all was well.

Next in line is the 60 hour service to an 8 wheel drive Argocat Frontier followed by similar to a 6 wheel drive Polaris Ranger.

It can be tricky getting the correct gap without non magnetic feeler gauge.

The next jobs sound like hard work. At least they might help keep you warm.
