S4rs Gauge circuit board question
«
on:
April 24, 2018, 08:14:42 AM »
Had a bad day in my garage the other day... lets just say there was an incident and in the end my gauges are smashed.
But... the circuit board is still good and the bike runs and starts normally
So here's my question. (And yes, I've been using the search for two days now
)
Can I pull the circuit board from my original gauge cluster and swap it into a new one and not have to worry about flashing my ECU?
Thanks in advance

I'd say with 90% certainty that if the bike starts & runs fine with the gauge housing broken, then the electronic innards are OK and working. If that's true then all you need are new plastics. Of course, those things are designed to discourage tampering & whatnot so actually making the swap could be easier said than done.
If your DP ECU wasn't married to the clocks when installed, you can just buy a used cluster off eBay and plug & play.

Should be a straight swap.
I'd confirm the needles sweep properly, and read correctly as they are a PITA.

You guys are making me feel better already
Here's another question that I'm sure has a very definitive answer...
Seeing as how I'm already running the DP ECU; Would a 749/999/St3/sport classic set of gauges also be plug and play? I notice the connection is th same

You should be able to use almost any case from the monster line, with the only differentiator from 2002-2007 being the center plastic piece color and design iirc. Or at least that was my experience with a 2002 620, 2005 620, 2006 s4rs dashes. If you wanted to use the insides from the donor as well it'd be another story.

Ok, thanks. I'm guessing that would also include the Sport classic line as well.
I was wondering if a stock unit from a 749/999/St3 would work. Has anybody tried this? I realise the mounting is completely different, I'm not afraid to tackle that part of it. But I noticed the harness connection is the same, but I have no idea if the system is compatible.

3 different cases AFAIK, early ones were glued together.
At some point, the cases were changed to a screw-together.
~2005 or so the cases and circuit board changed again, or a second case was introduced alongside the first.
If your immobilizer has been deleted, you could possibly make the 749/999/St3 work.

Do you wish to elaborate on the incident that resulted in smashed gauges?

Long story short.... I screwed up and my monster fell off its work table.
