All
I have a 2010 monster 696
I bought it from a guy who hid a crack in the case under the kickstand.
Went to Ducati dealer who told me about it
Couldn't get my trade back
So I bought a newer engine.
It was from a 2013 commerative that had been wrecked but only had a 1000 miles
I had Ducati install it but it leaves some big drops of oil every time I park it for a few days.
It's wet on the left side of the bike.
Does anyone have any typical leak areas I can check myself to try to fix?
I've spent so much trying to fix this up I am upset.

Also every time I ride in the morning the check engine light comes on.  Then after I ride it for 15 minutes or so, shut the bike off, crank it again the light goes off and doesn't come back on until the next AM ride.

I really appreciate any help.
My dad was sick and dying when I got the bike last year.    I wasn't thinking clearly and didn't check all of the things I should have when looking to buy a bike.

Thank you all
Chad

Sorry to hear about your dad.

I would be taking the bike back to the dealer that installed the motor. The CEL and oil leak both need attention as to their cause or related issues. The guys that did the work need to follow up on the job.  Same size motor?

My condolences on the loss of your dad. It doesn't matter how old he was, or how old you are. It just sucks.

It's a possibility the oil is leaking from the filter, and when you park the bike on the stand the oil runs to the left side.

Clean the area with brake cleaner. Spray the underside with aerosol foot powder, and the source of the leak will be apparent.

The CEL I can't help. It needs to be plugged into the diagnostic software.

The dealer doesn't want to stand behind it cause I got it done last july/August.
I didn't ride for 6 months after my dad and it was winter.
Now I'm trying to ride and trying to deal with this.
Both engines were 696.
They was me to pay for service more than $300

It's upsetting as I paid them $1200 plus just to do the install.
I bought the engine from a bike shop in Colorado.
I'm leery of the shop as I had the brakes and tires done at the same time as the engine work.   When the brakes were done I had a massive warp in my front rotors and before that I had none.   I think one of the techs swapped my rotors maybe for another bike or a project.

This has been upsetting but I wasn't thinking clear cause my dad's death.

I don't know what to do
I don't have any extra money as I'm going through a divorce from an unfaithful woman.

They probably bent the rotor while changing the tire.

Find a new shop.

Sorry about your dad.

Sorry about the bike.

Sorry about the unfaithful spouse.

You’ve had a shocking time mate, but I hope that it starts to get better soon.

Thanks to all
Does anyone have access to a repair or shop manual I can look at and try to fix the leaks by myself?
I used to work on cars some so I can do some things myself.  I figure a bike can't be that much different
I appreciate it

Haynes General desmodue manual is available from our sponsors and Desmotimes Desmodue supplement is also a good back up. The search function may locate on line manuals for your model.
In hard times like these its good to immerse yourself in motorcycle projects. Cheaper and more effective than most counsellors. waytogo
Stay in touch.

WOW!  You make me feel I had a really good year.

First step is locate the leak.  If you, and probably won't have to split the case you probably can fix it.  First step is thoroughly clean engine, then run and inspect.  You might get lucky and find the same idiot who bent the rotor while changing your tire just left a mess.  If you can't pin point the leak do the foot powder thing, it works.  The stain in the foot powder will lead you to the leak.

Like koko64 said, stay in touch.

This place is great for advice and encouragement to work bike problems though, which I reckon is just as valuable as the great advice.

Get the manuals and follow howie’s advice.

Then go from there.

It may take time, but the Monster doesn’t have to be another loss and salt in your wounds, but conversely an opportunity for a win and monument to a brighter, but hard fought chapter.
👍🏻👍🏻

I had a number of frustrations with my Monster over a few years that had me wanting to sell it at one stage.
koko64 and others here helped and encouraged me to work them through, gave advice and even sent a few parts here and there.

I’m so glad I got the important things sorted and love my Monster. They’re wonderfully fun to ride when they’re sorted and treated decently.

I sincerely hope your experience will be similar to mine.

Hang in there man!

You`ve had a rough time, shed time is good theraphy.

First, is bottom oil screw leaking?
Second, left side, where axle from gear box throught alternator cover ok?
Third, all alternator cover bolts are tightened ok? DO NOT overtorque these, check manual.
4th, could the clutch slave cylinder be leaking?

The easiest to start with, me think.

Thanks to all
Man it was actually worse.
My Dog died as well due to an inept vet,  i saw a woman get run over and killed (That was pretty rough), and I got sick and was out of work for almost 2 months.   All I can do now is not look back and try to maneuver for what's best for me.

Back to the bike
I honestly think it's ineptness from the dealer.  They had just hired a new guy and he was the one who did the work.
I'm going to try and pin point the leak this weekend
Once I figure it out, I'll reply back for more help if that's okay.
Thanks to all for the help and encouragement
