Sorry, I read into Nick's comment about the bridges freezing first. I still maintain that TC will not compensate for a cold tire. It won't even do that on motogp machines, and they have the most sophisticated TC on the planet.

The manual doesn't say at what speed the DTC would kick in, but it says "DTC system will kick in at the slightest hint that the rear wheel is starting to spin." that is when it is set to level 8, the default level in Urban mode is level 6.

Maybe the wheel slid sideways as much as spinning. Traction control is a wonderful rider aid, so some say, but it won't prevent every crash.
Motorcycles are dangerous. didn't your mom tell you that?

I have an 821 and there is a turn I take every day where I am leaned over when going over crosswalk paint (left hand turn from a stoplight) and the rear end slides sideways a bit every time and I get no DTC indication.

That's interesting.
There are sections of ornamental brickwork dividing the tarmac in my estate which would have the same effect. I get sideways on those sections in the dry and they are lethal in the wet.
