Today is a sad day. Ford closed its factories last year, Toyota earlier this month and today, Holden (GM) shuts its doors, ending the car manufacturing industry in this country.

End of an era!

Was it emissions-based?  What now, import cars or just fix the current fleet?

Can't fully say without being political!

Ford, Toyota and Holden will be full importers.

Mitsubishi, Nissan pulled out years ago and are full importers.

One factor that isn't political is the way Aussies would tend to keep their cars longer than our American friends, so much less turnover in a much smaller market.

It was 'we're not going to give government money to foreign (US and Japanese) companies anymore' based.  Stand on your own economic merits or go.

They went.

So much for the 'level paying field'.

It's OK.  I'll ban myself.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the air—these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.
