Hey guys, looking at a 03 monster 620 for sale for $900 but has some work that needs to be done. Dent in left side of tank, muffler scraped up left side (bike was dropped), needs new chain and battery. The main problem is there's rust in the tank and needs new fuel pump. There's 7000 miles on it. Is this worth the buy for the problems/repairs it needs or should I just pass? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Depends on how much of the work you can do yourself.

I can do battery, chain, and basic maintenance myself. I'm more concerned about the tank issue. If thats going to run me too much money where it doesn't make the bike worth it also not to mention if this could lead to other serious issues down the road. Or is it a common issue because they didn't switch the tanks to plastic tin a year or two after.

Does the bike run?  If not there can be a lot more wrong.  When was the last service?  How old are the tires?  Depending on condition the tank can be repaired and coated inside with POR 15.  Fuel pump can be purchased at a reasonable price from our sponsor Ca Cycleworks  http://ca-cycleworks.com/fp-duc  or you could get lucky and find a used tank with fuel pump.

$900 gives you a lot of leeway, but if the bike has major engine problems and needs some other major work that leeway will shrink fast.

I just contacted seller about the bike regarding if its running and about recent services. Still waiting to hear back

Belts and valves are a major service item that can cost a fair bit at the dealer. It that's something you don't want to tackle, and assuming it needs to be done, I'd recommend getting some quotes from nearby shops.

No, only if it's a Capirex.

Check eBay for the price of a replacement tank and add that to the purchase price and see what you think.
