From what I remember the  usual place for the main jet is block whit the bolt that use to be on top. I was using a small size jet 134   ...I think where the "starter jet " was . Then I've put a size 142 main jet unsted of the bolt on top ....

A ducati mecanic told me some day that "special setup" of mine is exacly what the engeners at Honda when they where call to solve some carburator  issues whit the Cagiva that won the dakar rally in the 90'.  coffee
Grin.... altougth I dont take credit for it ...   curriously my Husband who is a ex AMA    ( Xcross) racer came whit the setup....

When he saw the OEM setup for first time a few years ago he was stund...... " that thing make no sense and looks like sh**t engeniring "
He complain that the 45 degre angle from the main jet is limithing gas flow so he put a second main jet on top.....

The result is a better effeciency from 1/4 to 3/4 .... is nigth and day.

racing mecanical intuition ....  waytogo... yepp

Thanks heaps. I will play with some carbs to explore this in addition to  mods to the slide and bellmouth.
I read that Honda helped Cagiva to beat Yamaha with those special carbs. Yes, I agree the main jet straight in line with the needle jet/emulsion tube is better. Smiley
Cheers.

I will have to understand the interaction between the new main jet and the oem choke set up. It appears to be adding an intermediate jet or a power jet depending on your perspective. A smaller intermediate jet can give cleaner mid range and upper mid range running allowing the new main jet to handle WOT and the very top end. Very cool. This is very interesting. I really appreciate you sharing this, so thank you Mr and Mrs 100. waytogo

Very interested in hearing more on the BDST-38 carb mods.  Getting cold here soon, lots of Ducati stuff to do.

"There's acualy 2 main jet  a big one and a smaller one ......   the torque is great whit that modification.  The flow of the gas is more direct."

Very interesting, thx f sharing! waytogo

I'm gonna give this a go. Have ordered jets. Now just gotta find an M900/750 without FCRs. laughingdp

The starter jet is actually a type of Mikuni main jet, why cant we use that type of jet in a larger size as the bigger main jet? I ordered the type in the pic as it has the correct thread, etc, but I was just curious. Is it because its OD is about the same as the dome bolt?

There's alot of aspects of this mood that I dont remember.   A Thing that I remember is that I used what I  add around... I know that at least one jet came from  a Yamaha R-6...... (size 134 ...I think)  wich was the same kind of jets..

I would have to open it up and see what exacly in it . This mood was done actually 3 years ago.

The needles and the needle jets where change also.... I  know that I have  4 or 5 kits of needles but I dont remember what in it.  But just from logic it would be around a  medium tapper needle

I'm at the step of getting the bering out of the rims .....  usually  I push the internal tube that is place betwin the bering and move it from side to side a place a big srewdriver  to slam it whit a hammer to take out the bering but they  dont want to move.....   it seams this "usual" technique dosent work.... (maybe it jusst me ...but..)

Did somebody use that technique ? Do I have to try harder ? .... or do I take them out by completely destroing them ?

Sometimes there's a small slot cut in the end of the spacer that will allow you to get a tiny bit of the inner race with a punch.

Give both ends a real close look.
