Just caught wind that long time fixture of the Ducati community in the area, Walt Martens, passed away yesterday.

He died as a result of injuries sustained in a crash
http://www.fauquier.com/news/article/stering_man_dead_after_motorcycle_accident_in_remington

Walt was a MAD fixture and a lot of you probably met him, though may not have known it. He was present at/working the Ducati/MAD displays at things like IMS, Euro Classics and more over the years

Ride safe

Agreed Gene. I hardly had time to get out for any rides this year what with the new job. Gonna work on that for 2016.

Here's hoping you all have a great New Years celebration and I'll see you soon for a first of the year ride!

Same here, great list, great bunch of people just wish we saw more of each other. Here is hoping we do some more together in 2016, in addition to Barber of course.

Jack, Vicki in addition to Bike week next year I'll also be down to my special place on the West Coast for my 65th birth anniversary. Thinking about riding US17 the whole way like I've done a few times before. Maybe you'll be around and we can share an adult beverage.

Also thinking about making Dania Beach event this year.

Cheers all.

RIP Walter.  Were the other riders known?

I guess I failed in coordinating communications and I apologize to everyone for that. I had held off until I had word from his wife that is was okay. Then I got delayed at work before I could get to computer here at home. I sent this out to the big list(Ducati.net) but then had to deliver two of the bikes and just got back from doing that.

Walt was riding yesterday with 2 of our other friends Vince Pryke and Kevin Bechtel, they were involved in an accident at a stoplight,  2 of the 3 sustained injuries, Walt did not survive his. All details including cause of death are still under investigation and honestly right now they do not matter.  As you can imagine other details regarding funeral arangements are currently being worked out by his lovely wife Ivonne and son Jonathan(Rex). More details will follow when we have them.

As you know Walt was friends to many, he touched many lives, and was a true Ducatista and a great rider, trust me all these guys in my little circles are great riders.

For me personally, there are many strands in the fabric of one's life,Walt and
his wife Ivonne, were both large strands in my life as a motorcyclist. Walt and I rode on the track together at VIR many times. I was a member of MAD for many years. Walt and Ivonne went on many trips with Nora, myself and others in our circle of friends. They were on a mystery trip I setup, thay had no idea where we were going and questionable temps, yet they came, and we woke up the 2nd day for return trip with ice on our seats. They went with us on the Auto
Train to spend some time in Florida during Bike Octoberfest a few years back, meeting  my sister/her husband, and all of us riding together. They went on my Birthday ride down to Key West, taking the auto train with Nora and I, then riding down on Harleys Walt/Ivonne, Donnie Unger and wfie Juila, Mario Patuto, Vince Pryke, Kevin Bechtel and wife Lynette, Vicki Smith (Ducati.net) and Rich Lamberts (DESMO PRO) meeting us there, all of us riding/racing scooters around Key West. This same motly crew , sadly without Vicki/Rich, with Walt's brother and his wife riding my old 99' Victory which Walt has purchased from my nephew went on another trip up to Niagra Falls, the Curtis Museum, Grand Canyon of the East, we made many trips to the Indy GP, and Walt, Vince, Kevin, Mario, and I ran an awesome road the length of West Virginia, 400+ miles of twistys, visiting one of the best waterfalls on east coast, more awesome roads getting home, the list goes on and on. He was my friend, a good rider, and damn it I will miss him, it's just not fair! - Gene
