Chain and sprocket change, some help please

Hello Ducatisti,

My chain have lost some of its rubber components, but sprocket seems to be in good condition. Should i change the whole kit? what type/brand should i choose?

I would change the lot, Although the sprockets may look OK, they will be worn.
Putting a new chain onto them will shorten the life of the chain

I agree with Fatal.   New chain and two new sprockets  [thumbsup].

And since you are replacing chain and sprockets, it gives you the opportunity to consider if the gearing you had was right for you.

It's common to change to a 14t front sprocket to lower the gearing some.   In your situation though I'd keep the front at 15t and go +3t on the rear (which will achieve the same gearing result but be a nicer solution IMO)..... assuming you want to change gearing at all that is.

Thanks for the advice guys. Some other question, what do you suggest, aluminium or a steel?

You won't get a very long service life from aluminum.

I'd stick with steel.

What about the chain, would you recommend X chain or O chain? which is better?

 [clap] Ungeheuer, stick with his advice. I just changed my chain and sprockets for a 15t front and 43 rear. Interesting to see the alu vs steel discussion. I have the Duc performance alu rear sprocket and will see how it will keep up. Otoh changing the rear sprocket will cost me only around USD 90 if its gone. BTW, I use a DID XW chain, see this post...http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=48158.msg1192522#msg1192522. Any experience around with this setup???

Under ideal conditions you can get a decent, though not as good lifespan out of an aluminum sprocket.  There is still the problem that once you wear through the anodized surface wear can be alarmingly rapid.  Street bike?  IMO, stick with steel.

Or you can get something like SuperSprox - aluminum carrier with steel teeth.

When I replace my chain and sprockets I am going back to 15T in front, +3 in the rear. I noticed increased chain wear with the 14T front sprocket - I think that is just too sharp a corner to turn. Do love the increased torque, though!

I might even check on a 16T front, if it will fit.
