I have a 2008 S2R 1000 that I bought a while back.  Love this bike!  Has a Marving pipe and stock air box.  This bike also has an o2 manipulator installed.  No surging, idles fine, minimal occasional popping on decel.  My issue is when traveling through town in first gear at low Rpms (15 mph speed limit, aargh).  It seems like its running a bit rich, bogs a bit and runs a little rough.  Also, at higher speeds this bike just doesn't run smooth below 3500-4000 rpms.  Getting on the gas below 4k causes the bike to shutter pretty good, enought that I generally want to keep the rpms above 4k.  Smooth as butter above 4k.

BTW, I bought the bike from a guy that had it tuned at sea level.  I live at 9000 feet and ride at altitudes between 6000-10000 feet.  I assume the bike is running rich, right?.  I'm thinking about disconnecting the manip to see how it runs, or try to lean it out a bit using the screw knob.  Any thoughts, experiences or recommendations?  Thanks in advance.

Your bike doesn't like running at those rmps. It will be much happier up between 5-7k. This is true at any speed, and it sounds to me like you are running around in a higher gear than you should be. As for the tuning at sea level....shouldnt matter, except perhaps to tweak the fat duc. Being EFI fuel systems, the monster should correct itself for different altitudes. My bike lived at around 5k feet for several years before I moved down to sea level, with no corrections needed.

Also, if you post this over in the Tech section, you will get a much better range of replies.

This is my second Ducati Monster (1st was a 620ie).  My previous bike ran strong from about 2500 up, so this is what I have to compare to.  If I can make adjustments to make it smoother in the lower RPM ranges, thats what Im looking for.  Yes it IS happier at the 5-7K RPMs, but I should be able to get a bit more out of this thing.  My biggest concern is running it in 1st gear at slow speeds, low rpms; she studders and bogs.  Spoke with a mechanic at the Ducati dealer, he suggested just unplugging the manip cause it appears to be running rich.  Snow on the ground right now, so ill have to wait and see.

I purchased one of these units a month after getting my s2r for the same reasons as you. i could never get the o2 manipulator to run perfect so i went out and purchased a set of arrow pipes and a dp ecu. if you love your bike now wait until you make the move to a dp ecu! its the best money you'll ever spend!!

My '07 M695 is does the same with a FatDuc. Richening the mix helped some (I'm at 5,000 feet).  Changing to a 14T front sprocket helped the most.
