VDOT is taking public comment regarding their proposed $1 monthly fee.

http://www.virginiadot.org/newsroom/e-zpass_info.asp

HEre is my email to them:

Quote
To whom it may concern,

If VDOT adopts a $1 monthly fee, I will cancel my VDOT EzPass and subscribe to one from another state that does not have a monthly fee.

There is no legal impediment to doing so and since VDOT offers no discount for Virginia drivers or charge to out-of-state EZPass holders, there is no reason for me to accept a non-usage related fee.  If you want to cover your budget gap, how about cutting salaries 5% and make people buy their own coffee?

There are plenty of unemployed people out there right now who would be happy to fill the spot of someone unhappy with a small salary cut.

Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island have no monthly fee and all will happily accept my money to open an account.

What bugs me the most about these fees is that they start small, to make it seem like it's not a big deal, but then they just increase constantly. Reminds me of Metro...

My brother fills that description, where should he apply?

Mass will send you one without question.

Ironic.  Actually, if I have to get one from out of state I'll probably choose Maine.  They deserve the money more than Mass.  Mass will just piss it down the drain.

Just curious - why Maine?

I plan to get one from Delaware if this goes through. Actually 2 since I have one for the bikes and one for the car and truck. That is how I repsonded to VDOT and I also told them I should get a discount for using EZ Pass and if they need more revenue add $.05 to those paying cash. - Gene

5 cents?  Hell, add $1.  Those people are holding up traffic.
