I tried looking for some info on this but couldn't find it.
I want to put an oil cooler on my 02 620 and think I might have found the kit I need.  Question is what is involved in doing this and how difficult is it?  I was a mechanic for 4 years (worked on Audi's) so I feel like I can do it and I have the tools.  Can anyone tell me what I need to know or know of place to see some pictures and details of how to do this?  Thanks.

Don't know of any step by steps that exist.

But you'll need (I think this covers it)
- Valve inspection cover with mounts
- Valve inspection cover gasket
- Lines
- The cooler
- some misc hardware.

Basically all you should need to do is:
swap in the valve cover with the mounts.
Remove the threaded plugs in the engine case that face forward, in front of and a bit below your oil pressure sensor.
Attach lines to case
Attach lines to cooler
Mount cooler
Profit!

There might be some small things I've missed.  Here's a link to the DP kit.  There's some small bits like a C-clip that I'm not sure of the purpose of... but could be important

It's simple to do.
First download a parts diagram  from one of the Monsters that has a cooler.

You'll need: cooler, lines, fittings, and the cooler mount is actually a special valve cover for the lower cylinder. You can avoid getting this cover if you just fab your own mount but that's up to you.

Oh, you'll also need a bypass valve that fits above the oil filter. Down loading the parts diagram will make it all very easy to figure out.

Thanks guys I think I am going to do this.  The bike really seems to run better around 200 than the 260 it gets up to now.  There is a complete kit for $350 in parts for sale.  Hopefully they can get me some pics and if everything is there I am going to snatch it up.

the diverter valve under your oil filter  directs the flow of oil through the cooler so do not forget to add this it only fits one way. If you are mechanical at all it will not be a problem. do not reuse your oil filter. use a little blue loctite on the oil fittings.
I just installed one on a customers bike in boston and he is very happy with the temp change.

Does anyone have a part number for the diverter?  My manual for the 695 doesn't (obviously) have it.

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have any pics of an oil cooler on a 620.  I would really like to see it done.

Also, I was wondering if an oil cooler could be painted.  I don't think it would affect the performance.  Plus, black will disapate the heat better.

Yes, if you use specific Radiator paint, which only seems to come in black.  Using regular paints will inhibit the radiation of heat.

bah! those pics in FS no worky for me right now.

if it's the OEM kit, it will certainly have everything you need for the install. that little diverter valve is just a stamped piece of sheet metal that installs above your filter. you'll see where it goes once the filter is off and you're on the ground looking up at the engine case.

hardest part I had was taking that sensor thingy off the stock valve cover and transfering it to the new valve cover. that was some mighty locktite on it!  Shocked

:edit: diverter valve is the thingy in the plastic bag in the photos... looks like the sensor in the valve cover is lumped into the deal, so it'll be a cake install for whoever buys this  waytogo

according to the Ducati part diagram the non-cooler'ed 620 already has the bypass valve fitted as its part of the part diagram...and its the same part number as the cooler'ed monster...

part # 799.2.077.2A Bypass spring

but I guess you need to take the filter out to make sure...=)

and the only thing thats really hard to come by is the valve cover...

cooler and lines are on sale often on ebay or on here...both for less than $200...if you can hang your cooler on the frame you dont really need the valve cover

or simply get aftermarket bigger cooler and custom made AN fitting lines...you get a better system this way I think...

my bike did not have the diverter installed in it's stock condition.

which makes sense, really, since it's purpose is to promote oil flow to where the lines are thd'd into the case. no cooler=no need to send the oil that way
