I work in felony flats, but I take lunch time rides up by Lewis and Clark, so I ride through Sellwood quite a bit.  Red 695, sometimes with a red faux hawk on teh helmet.

I moved this weekend.  Went from my former apt in Tualatin to a nicer one in north Wilsonville.  It's a little bigger, has vaulted ceilings, quieter, nicer looking interior (paint, appliances, etc), yet it's cheaper.  Only downside is that the garage is probably 18" narrower, so I had to be more careful of how I arranged my shelving and stuff so I could fit all the crap, the old GTI, and the Duc in there.

I had planned the move date a month in advance... thinking mid-May would be either rainy or sunny and mild... wow... figures we not only had hot weather, we had record-breaking hot weather for two days in a row.  Tongue  Imagine using a Stairmaster while carrying a ~40lb box in 95 degree heat and sun.  Holy-freaking-crap, that sucked monkey balls.  There is just no nice word for that experience.  Sunday was marginally better because it was around 10 degrees cooler, and we were on flat ground loading/unloading the garage stuff, plus Dad had the utility trailer backed right up to the garage door.

Driving the '86 GTI from Tualatin to Wilsonville reminded me why I'm keeping that car.  I love lightweight, stiff, responsive cars.  I think I'm gonna be getting back into buying parts for that car, so I can get it running and driving again.  I'd prefer a nicely tuned Mk2 to the Mk3 VR6.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.

Mk1, Mk2 and Mk5 are my favorites.  I never owned a Mk4.  VDub's are awesome!

Hey, thanks for the consideration, I know a number of ya would've helped had I asked... I had some family helping, and stuff wasn't exactly ready-to-go, so Mom & Dad helped me pack.  Had the temp been 70 or so, we'd have gotten it done without any problem, it just took us bloody forever in that heat, because every other trip we had to stop for 5 min to hydrate and cool down.

Anyway, if I plan ahead next time and have stuff boxed up, I'll definitely put the request out there.  Obviously, ample food and drink would be provided.  Wink

Then again, I may post it at church as a "productive fellowship" opportunity... and I'm not so sure about mixing that group and this one.   cheeky

Mike, I haven't driven a Mk5, but I hear they're a hoot.  I might be tempted to go test drive one of those, just for grins.  And I'd love to have an original Mk1 GTI... a wascally wabbit!  Evil

For the uninitiated... Mk1 is the original Rabbit and first-gen Jetta (seventies through 1984), the Mk2 was 1985-1992, Mk3 was 1993-1998, Mk4 was 1999-2005 (this one's actually a little broken up because the Jetta, new Rabbit, and GTI were released at different times), and Mk5 is the current bodystyle Rabbit and Jetta.  The "Mark I" through "Mark V" designators are used when referring to the different generations of "A-chassis" cars (which are the compacts), so the generations or "Marks" correspond to the A1-A5 platforms.  The Passat and Audi A4 are "B-chassis", which is larger, and the numbers are out of sync with the "A" platform (since they changed generations in different years).

The cars I have are a red 1986 GTI (A2, or "Mark II"), and a black 1998 GTI VR6 (A3, or "Mark III").

Note that the years for each gen may be different in Europe.  The A1 was released there before it was in the US, and the GTI also came out a couple years earlier over there.  There were other differences as well, like with the Mk3 GTI VR6... there was no Mk3 GTI with a VR6 in Europe (there was a Golf VR6, but technically over there it wasn't a GTI), instead they got a 2.0L 16-valve motor (which never made it to this side of the pond, at least not in an A3 chassis).

Okay, sorry, now I'm getting into really obscure trivia that I'm sure only Mike has any awareness of.   Embarrassed  It's an enthusiast thing.
