Ok I have finally sorted the S4 out after a marathon 4 years now it finally handles as a ducati should with new forks and Ohlins shock and higher 36psi in the rear tire ...


so i had a look at my M750 ,,,, I have been putting up with less than perfect handling compared to my exemplary 750ss from 1991 so i increased rear preload a tad but the main improvement was putting 36psi in the rear instead of 32 that ducati reccomend ,, now the bike is as good as the 750ss .........amazing and a useful tip for everyone ,,, seems according to pirelli tire developer that i met that Ducati tested these bikes 10-20 years ago on race tracks where lower pressures are relevant and also newer 2 and 3 compound tire technology works better on the road with about 10% higher pressures ....


try it and be suprised.

Just realize that the tires will generate less heat that way, and not be as grippy as they easily could be. So the handling and responsiveness may have a + improvement, but overall grip will likely be lower.

It calls for 2.2 and 2.4 BAR on my 796 ABS which appears very close although I run 2.25 and 2.5 BAR @ 175# which seems best for me on the road. (That's 32 & 36 PSI which is also what the owners manual specifies.)

links dont specify a tire but on streetbikes with pirelli's I run close to 33-33. 36 seems a bit high but if thats what you've found works then go for it.

Swap ends much?  Every Euro bike I've ever owned specified +3 - +4 PSI in the rear..., Brit, German or Italian.

I found that higher pressures in the rear actually increased grip , pirelli tech told me the new 2 and 3 compound tires are softer compounds than the stuff 10 years ago and thats what makes the difference , bike was all wallowing with 32 in the rear .

On the street, yeah I think 32 is a bit low. 34-35 is about right.

I typically run 30f 32r on my '90s SS....but I only ride it hard!
