So since the bike battery goes almost dead after 25 min. the stator test would be in order ....The test  is showing one hot  yellow off the stator  kicking out a charge and two others are grounded ... no need to see if DC is comming out of the reg.ref  yet as it might work if the short wire is traced .  MAN I LOVE OLD BIKES .. :D this street fighter gets a ton of looks

OK today the stator cover came off and a burned crusty stator came off.. now there is oil that came out and thought it would be dry ?   Is this right  ?   There seemed to be some burnt oil around the stator too .                                         The pick ups around the ends were chared , more like burnded oil  i want to clean them .

Howie

Oil will come out when you remove the cover, this is normal.  I bet if you trace the three yellow wires up to the cheesy connector you will find signs of overheating, probably where the problem started.

Stators are big bucks.  Call these folk about a rebuilt:

Howie ...  the connector plug looked real clean and showed no heat spots but the stator was really buned and a few wires were stuck in the magnet .so since these are cooled in oil its best to have full syn oil  for the best stabil temps . hope this  new system  from RICKS works for years as this is my beater bike around town .I BELIEVE IT STARTED OUT AS A 750 SS ,AND I LOVE THE TANK ...BAD ASS

Man the 8 day wait killed me to get the ststor back. It was sitting on my porch today and it went right on no issues but the 3 wires are now red insteed of yellow . Tossed in in with 2 qts of oil and things are fine as  tomorrow i will test the volts to be sure . RICKS MOTORSPORTS  was a deal at $140 they tested my reg/rec and it showed good at no charge /$10 / my bill with testing & shipping was $140 ... cheap repair . the old stator was cooked good guess a great reason to use full syn oil for the stator wont fry as easy as dino oil .

I am confused...was it $10 or was it $140?
