Gave away my Benchmade Grizzly Creek to a friend so now I need a new folding knife.

Any suggestions for a reliable everyday folding knife?

Another Benchmade.  And say to yourself over and over “You get what you pay for...  You get what you pay for...”

I like the Triage.

Yeah, I've been eyeing a Griptillian.  Also was thinking about a classic Buck folding knife.  Nothing fancy, but I like simple.  Anyone have a classic Buck?

I've only had the smaller Buck folders. I broke the blade on every single one.

I use a locking knife for things not intended. Undecided

Yeah, after researching more I realize the Buck classic 112 is not the answer.  I've gotten too used to being able to open and close one-handed.

Damn you, Bick, for putting thoughts in my head.  Now I've been combing the Benchmade site and youtube vids of their various EDC offerings.  So much of what they have is very similar, though, so it's hard to tell what is different.  The Griptilian, the Freek, and the Bugout are all appealing and not too pricey.  The Mini Crooked River I really like, but it's pricey.  Also looking at the Spiderco Paramilitary 2.  That's because I'm not 100% a fan of the thumb stud, since mine kept coming unscrewed on my Grizzly Creek until I finally put on some locktite.  Thinking the thumb hole might be a better option.

Anyway, I need to buy something soon because the longer I look the higher the price range I'm willing to accept. Evil

Also looking at the Spiderco Paramilitary 2.

Go on, buy it. Evil
It is one of my favorite.

Made in Golden, Colorado, U.S.A. Earth

Short version

Long version

But, wait. Even better (in my very personal, biased opinion), get Chris Reeve's
Sebenza ( and I suggest to get "Insingo", as opposed to "clip point")

Clip point vs insingo

Size and thickness comparison
From top to bottom, Benchmade Mini-Griptillan, Sebenza, and PM2.

Sebenza is the thinnest, PM2 close 2nd. mini-Griptillan is not that comfortable to wear on the pocket all day everyday due to the fat and round handle. (And the extra thickness and curve on the grip scales don't add any comfort / extra grip over the thin and flat handle on PM2 and Sebenza while in use.)

PM2 comes with one of the sharpest factory edge out of the box ...
(Out of the box, it IS sharper than any Benchmade offerings.)

... however, it has one of the most delicate tip. Something you should know.

On the other hand, Sebenza does not come with crazy sharp edge from the factory.
So, you need to be able to hand sharpen the knife.

Also, it is a utility blade. Not a combat tool. (It is rather slow to deploy the blade.)

However, if you actually use the knife and sharpen it over and over again, you will appreciate the design.
(Mat finish titanium handle scale, somewhat odd, ugly blade shape, hairline finish on the blade, pocket clip design, EVERYTHING on this knife is meant to be functional in the real world.)

Anyhow, forget the "assisted opening" and "flipper".
you don't need them in the real world.
And IF you really need fast deploying blade, then get wave. (Faster than any assisted or auto.)

The PM2 was too big.  Thought about the Para 3, but ended up with a Spyderco Sage 5.  While I liked my Benchmade and also liked current Benchmade offerings, I wanted to try a thumb hole and compression lock system just to see what that's like.

Thanks.

... so, I'm also a sucker for titanium frame lock folders ...

Spyderco Spydiechef

Size wise, it's pretty close to Sebenza.

... and, like Sebenza, it's got low-profile, deep carry clip

... and pretty capable for a utility folder (not every single folder can do this)

Dunno if this is a Derby, but I stumbled across this

Might be a bit short on some safety measures so kids talk to your parents before trying this in the garage.
