For the past week my 2000 750M was losing all electric power when on the road.  The key switch had some play in it and if you touched it, poof no power. Jiggle key and power back on.  I was guessing it was just a worn key and I would have a locksmith re-key it.  I was pulling it today when it failed completely.  I am certain the problem is the ignition switch for I had no power at 85 on main relay and when I jumped 3/6 and 2/5 on the male switch coupling I could start her (though headlight was dim and no tail/brake lights).  My questions are: 1) Is the switch repairable or must it be replaced?  I've already stabbed myself twice trying to get the black housing off.  2)I saw several duc key switches for sale on Ebay from different years and models.  But they all look exactly the same as mine.  Are they directly interchangeable? 3) For the short term can I hotwire it safely?  I thought if the present switch was not repairable I would cut the coupling and use that as a key.  Thanks in advance.

Would a toggle switch be easily accomplished?  I searched but did not find any threads.

Solved: I drilled out two screws in the back and inside was a plastic roundhouse thingy with three spring loaded contact points.  One of the springs had rusted away.  I used a new spring from a regular (door) lock cylinder and purchased four 4mm bolts for $.87.  It seems to be working fine or at least no hiccups yet.
