Just to wake the topic.....on that 696 the rear swing arm was changed with one from 1098....would it be possible to use single seing arm from 796?

I'd say it would likely be heaps easier than using a 1098 swingarm.

It may even bolt straight up, it could happen.

Best to look at parts diagrams to see the differences between them.

So, as swap on 796 it would be need it; engine, injectors, ecu, wiring...probably rear shock. And it might play.
Only negative side as i see it is loosing ABS...
