Thanks for putting that up, BadgalBetty -- I'd never come across the Avett Bros before, but now it looks like I'll be doing a little music shopping.
Another singer I'd never heard of before this week that's going in that shopping spree is Seasick Steve:

And about a year ago, I heard Howe Gelb at a bar downtown; Gelb is based out of Tucson and was one of the members of Giant Sand (two of whom spun off into Calexico):

I keep coming back to his song "Get to Leave" of which I couldn't find a decent video or other version to share, but has one of the best opening lines I've ever heard:
