Title: Re: V4 Gran Turismo Multi Post by: Duck-Stew on October 20, 2020, 07:40:05 PM Looking a bit ahead here, but wait until Ducati uses Desmodromic to describe some slick feature in their electric motorcycle’s inverter.
Remember: you heard it here, first. ;D Title: Re: V4 Gran Turismo Multi Post by: Speeddog on October 20, 2020, 07:56:57 PM That's only because Turbo Encabulator is taken

Title: Re: V4 Gran Turismo Multi Post by: ducpainter on October 21, 2020, 02:17:58 AM It was inevitable. Doesn't mean I have to like it.Title: Re: V4 Gran Turismo Multi Post by: koko64 on October 21, 2020, 11:30:48 AM I was happy to see the belt drive go, but wished for fully gear driven cams like a Honda VFR, but desmo is special.
Title: Re: V4 Gran Turismo Multi Post by: Speeddog on October 21, 2020, 05:10:45 PM Is any modern legitimately street legal bike full gear drive?
I think the noise would be problematic to get past the specs. Title: Re: V4 Gran Turismo Multi Post by: kopfjäger on October 21, 2020, 05:44:23 PM https://youtu.be/MwY7HOZv7Eo

I think the noise would be problematic to get past the specs. I thought the VFR 750's, 400's & earlier 800's were expensive, exquisite gear driven cams? You can hear the gear whine which goes well with the V4 growl like a blown V8. http://www.payneseal.com/images/vfr%20cam%20detail.jpg Title: Re: V4 Gran Turismo Multi Post by: Howie on October 22, 2020, 05:49:28 AM You are correct about the VFRs, gear driven until...don' know. Maybe for homologation? Gear driven is both noisy and expensive.

Gear driven is both noisy and expensive. i ride a M900. Noise and cost were never an issue Title: Re: V4 Gran Turismo Multi Post by: koko64 on October 22, 2020, 01:13:14 PM You are correct about the VFRs, gear driven until...don' know. Maybe for homologation? Gear driven is both noisy and expensive. They used backlash gears to quiet them down a bit. We removed them for racing. They stopped gear driven cams at the variable timing VFR800 which didnt work too well. I think it was a two valve/four valve thing, not sure but dont care from all reports as Honda got too fancy for their own good. The gear driven 800 was a derivative of the RC45 design and excellent. The last version of the VFR750 was a beauty. The desmosedici has gear driven cams and sounded great. I met a bloke who had one and it sounded wicked. He said his bike once got impounded and his licence was fragile. ;D Title: Re: V4 Gran Turismo Multi Post by: caperix on October 22, 2020, 02:33:38 PM The rc 51 was gear drive as well. The twins sound good with gear drive as well. The newest ones are 14 years old now, so not super modern.

Springs? Well FMD. I'm sure its a wonderful thing... but how is it in anyway... a Ducati engine? Title: Re: V4 Gran Turismo Multi Post by: stopintime on October 25, 2020, 03:11:14 PM Valve. Springs? Well FMD. I'm sure its a wonderful thing... but how is it in anyway... a Ducati engine? I believe, by the L configuration more than the desmo. Title: Re: V4 Gran Turismo Multi Post by: Charlie98 on November 23, 2020, 08:46:08 AM Quote The last version of the VFR750 was a beauty. Yes, it was. I beat feet down to the Honda dealer to try to buy one of the last ones... but missed it. I wound up with a CBR1000F instead. |
