No disrespect to Nakagami, but if he's 3rd fastest, I'm not seeing much value in the times.

There is rigorous parts testing affecting some times. MM said he was under strict orders to not push hard and crash and that he had a lot of testing work to do rather than chase times.

Maybe they’re trying to make Rossi retire by giving him less juice.  :D

Yes big workloads to get through to select next years bike.

Maybe the Yamaha is geared towards the future.

Zarco is working very hard.

Is anyone riding the same kit as they raced this year?

Nakagami (I'm guessing) ?

Looks to me everyone else is on new bikes?

I believe so. MM was switching between the 18-19 today. This testing in particular is where the big brain dudes start/continue to chew fingernails off.  :D

Near as I can tell, Nakagami is on Cal's bike, he's still one model year behind but better than '17 bike.
Other guys on the same sort of last-years model, Ducs?

Everybody else is riding changed or totally new bikes.

Zarco will need some patience, but I'm thinking they've got Coulon for continuity with him, so they'll get it sorted.
Everything I've seen on how they operate makes me think they'll do just fine.
KTM is eager and well armed, they will arrive.

The Ducati boys are on the 19.

“The 32-year old spent Wednesday assessing an early version of the GP19 with two different chassis. Last week at Valencia he felt Ducati had “found something interesting” regarding its well-known turning difficulties. That was not evident here.”

Rossi is playing mind tricks with the Yamaha engineers. They should hire Ducati’s electronics guru

https://motomatters.com/analysis/2018/1 ... notes.html

"Big changes were what he felt was needed to make the Yamaha competitive. They were chasing half a second, and that would not come from minor refinements, he said. He had new forks which felt a little better, but the biggest problem is that they needed a big step forward in electronics to gain more drive out of the corners. The Yamaha is fast enough when you run wide sweeping lines and carry lots of corner speed, but as soon as you get caught up in a battle with another rider, you would lose out, he said. If they could find more drive grip, he felt he could be in the fight."

Oops, sorry, wrong thread, that's Alex Lowes, talking about the WSBK Yamaha.

Maybe the MotoGP guys should be nice kids and give back the sparky they stole.

Torsion bar?

All I've seen so far shows it as a full-floating rear brake, similar to what some Monsters and SSs had.

The trick may be in *where* it is attached, as it may be able to provide pro-squat and anti-squat at different points in the suspension travel.

The only pic I've seen doesn't seem to have it attached to the caliper, but rather an aluminum bracket attached to the swingarm. Photos aren't that clear.
