I'm sure the Houston and Austin area folks are making their own arrangements... at least I hope.  I'll try and help people find a roommate if they need it  wt:

I am trucking in, obviously, from me casa at Canyon Lake.
Most leaving Friday heading straight to the ranch. I'd like to time it so I land after the big cabin is open for business so I can dump my load as soon as I get there.  co::

No not that load, this load -----> be::

I would like to see if anyone can bring an extra full size cooler or two.
My plan is to have multiple taps going this time.  8)

Probably need to leave Sunday night, but that is subject to change.
Sooooooo ready for this trip/break.

*giddy like little school girl*

Any suggestions on a place to stay around there?  I have camped many times in my truck, so as long as there's a place to park, and perhaps showering opportunities, I can rough it in the cage.

I dunno about the other folks, but I would be more than happy to let you shower in the king cabin... assuming noone's in there while you're trying to use it...  :P

I'll bring a "tip jar" for those feeling generous.
Especially those feeling drunk and generous.  ;D

Next time maybe I'll try to pre-fund a little.
And maybe put up a poll for requests. 8)

Jim and Ron,
Do you guys want to split a 2 person cabin?  They are reasonably priced.  www.koyoteranch.com

I'd reserve it for you guys but I already have the deposit down for the king cabin and that's a chunk of change.

Anybody else that is looking for a roomie should speak up and let me help you pair up.  Reserving the cabin is up to you guys, I can't afford putting deposits down for everybody  :-\

I was looking at some places to stay in Austin today.

A couple of choices, stay in downtown or north Austin near 183.

Downtown would be aout $60pp whereas the 183 area is $45pp.  I think the 183 area will be easiest area to park truck/trailers.  Let me know what you guys think, I'll book the rooms asap

I usually stay around the 183 area when I'm there. It's fine with me.

Guys, I'm definitely going on the trip!

However, I'm not decided about my departure time.

One important fact I need to find out...

Does anyone have room left on a trailer?

Also, now that I've finally made up my mind about going...  Is there anyone who still needs a cabin at Koyote Ranch?

I talked to them this afternoon.  They currently have availability of pretty much every size cabin for the 3 nights we need.

Kamp Kabin - sleeps 4 adults for $75 a night.  This cabin is bare-bones.  Electricity and an A/C.  No TV, no bathroom, no kitchenette, no running water.  Use community shower/bath facilities.
Getaway - sleeps 4 adults for $170 a night.  This cabin has everything that Kamp Kabin doesn't (full bathroom, kitchenette, TV).

Personally, I figure the Kamp Kabin is sufficient for my purposes (sleeping between day-long rides).  However, if there are at least 3 more folks looking for cabin accomodiations, I'm up for either option.

Reply here to discuss, or PM me.

Thanks!

I'm not going to commit to this, but I will be shooting for the trackday at the end of the month.  I'm pretty stoked and motivated to get trucking on our loan obligations that we just closed, so I'm gonna stay in town for now.

I'm up for the cheap cabin and community showers are fine.  If nothing works out I can snooze in my truck.

After talking to Scott, Patrick, and Ron I think the downtown location will be good. The extra $ is worth being close to downtown and in an area where we won't have to worry about the bikes overnight.

I plan to book the rooms on Monday when I'm at the office

Well I am "trying" to grow my own hops.
I am a lot better at brewing beer than I am keeping plants alive.  :-[

But I meant have a poll to get some beer style requests for next time.

I should have a couple different things ready to go for this run though. ;)

Speaking of nancy boys...
In case I forget, two of the beers are not Vegan approved.  :-*

Before anyone freaks out and thinks I made a Cock Ale.  :-X
There is honey in one and lactose in the other. They will be labeled.

Oh, and before anyone freaks out about what a Cock Ale is.

Quote
Cock Ale
Classification: cock ale, historical, 1500s, chicken, meat

Source: Chris Sutherland (Christopher.Sutherland@cl.cam.ac.uk), 6/20/93
The recipe for authentic Cock Ale has finally arrived. Boy it sure is scary:

COCK ALE (circa the 1500's) A real recipe from some obscure text found in the Scottish Highlands... Enjoy....
Procedure:
"Take 10 gallons of ale and a large cock, the older the better; parboil the cock, flay him, and stamp him in a stone mortar until his bones are broken (you must gut him when you flaw him). Then, put the cock into two quarts of sack, and put to it five pounds of raisins of the sun - stoned; some blades of mace, and a few cloves. Put all these into a canvas bag, and a little before you find the ale has been working, put the bag and ale together in vessel.

In a week or nine days bottle it up, fill the bottle just above the neck and give it the same time to ripen as other ale."
:o

Any recipe that starts  with "Take 10 gallons of ale..." will always get my attention.  That whole thing about stamping a chicken in a stone mortar though was kind of a downer...

Alright, I'm a little confused.
according to this "...put the cock into two quarts of sack, and put to it five pounds of raisins of the sun - stoned..."
Something needs to get stoned here...
Is it the raisins?, the cock?, you?, or some combination of those three?   ;D

Yeah that ale recipe turns even my Scottish, Type O, hunter-gatherer, meat eating stomach.  ;:|

I like your line of thought though. I really can't see how honey is justified as an issue, but I don't even do milk myself.  :P I'm a soy boy.
If I could come up with another non-fermentable sugar base for the sweetness, I'd use it.

If your down with honey, I might smuggle in a mead sample. :)

Is anyone actually riding TO the hill country?  ???
I couldn't trailer my bike if I wanted too -by that time it'll have the little sidecar on it for "Duke" (my dog)...
And besides, being in a car scares me -them shitz is DANGEROUS!

I think the last thing with four wheels I drove was aB13Pilot's p-up truck (in the rain) to go get a NO-MAR tire changer in Dallas... and that was 6 or more months ago.  I was sweating bullets the whole time.

If someone is riding down there "post up" and let me know.
I'd have to figure out accomidations for "Duke" too...
Will a cabin fit four+1 20Lb Puggle?
He doesn't drink much beer... and the ladies love him.

Ron,

I'll count you as #3 in the Kamp Kabin (maximum 4).  That'll be you, me, and littleyellowduc.

There's still room for one more if anyone's interested.

Thanks Jim, that sounds great!

Rich,

Check with Bryant about anyone else riding down.  At this time, I think Ashok may be the only other DFW'r going down who isn't on a trailer.

I am not adverse to having a dog stay in the cabin, but I can't speak for Alan (littleyellowduc) or Ron (Ronr).  If it's okay with them, you and Duke are welcome to take the 4th bed in our cabin.

I really wish I were going on this trip but I'll be staying with my Mom for a few days so the timing isn't right this time.

For any of you who haven't had a chance to make a road trip with these folks, you're in for a treat.  That you'll have fun roads to ride is just a bonus.

Food & Beverage is now the topic for the weekend.

I think we have beverages are covered by our very own Jason aka MurDuc  [drink]  Although we'll probably need a few bottles of the non-alchol variety as well

Do we want to cook out like we did last time?  *cough*David*cough*

I'm assuming the usual BBQ fare and a few vegan friendly things for Patrick should be on the menu.

I'm not sure if Swanny is going to be able to hook us up again with food last time, but here's hoping  :)

Were looking at 3 nights of cooking or traveling to a nearby town for some local grub.

I'm happy to put together some food for the crew and I can put together a few stuffed roasted stuffed bell peppers for patrick too and what have you for vegan options.

Just would need to know

1. how many people
2. how many meals
3. dietary restrictions

and I'm thinking going out to eat at least once may be a good option, although I remember being really not in the mood to hop back on the bike after a full day's riding...

hey rich, if you need a place for the dog, your dog can stay with me at my friend's place.  I don't think that should be a big deal at all. in fact, you could probably stay at his place as well with no real issues.  Just let me know ahead of time

Hey, for those who are getting a kamp cabin, a friend of mine and his R1 are gonna be joining us and he was wondering if he could pick up a spot in the cabin?

AND lastly, what exactly were y'all planning on doing in austin thursday?  I'm still trying to figure out what time to arrive in austin thursday.  Is it gonna be like let's meet up for dinner and then just hang out a bit in downtown?

I lied, Extended Stay America do allow dogs, it's a $25 additional fee/night max $75.

I just reserved 6 rooms at there.  You guys can take care of the bill there at the front desk as I haven't been charged for the rooms.  I have to send a list of 6 names to book the rooms later today.  Anybody opposed to me sending your name in?  If not I'll just take one from each trailer.

The Red Fez is a bar, they have live DJs and very limited table areas

http://www.red-fez.com/

But unfortunately no Hookahs on Thursdays, but maybe with some cash grease they'll let it slide.

Thursdays are the beginning of the weekend so I'm not sure why they exclude them that day

I would bring a little of your fav. label beer as well. It IS a long weekend and I still don't know how much I am bringing. Most of it is still fermenting, and most of it is not standard fair. There is a Pale Ale conditioning but I expect that to go pretty fast when we come in hot and sweaty off a ride.
There is no lager, since we haven't quite started that. By next time I should be lagering.

Also, someone mentioned not liking "hoppy" stuff. FYI. Due to my own current preferences and the hop shortage, nothing I am bringing is very hoppy. (I am considering dry hopping the Pale Ale though)

On the grub deal.
I failed to notice last time since I did a one day deal, does the big cabin(hangout) have an open grilling setup?

But seriously.
I need to delve into the unknown.
I need to reach a final verdict I have never made before. That a batch cannot be saved.
Then I need to turn it into some yummy malt vinegar.

But it wouldn't be ready in time for this run.

I do have a turkey fryer that used to be my brew kettle, so if we ever did want to do a fish fry we could.
Speaking of which. I have a turkey fryer...  :D

Who signed up to bring an extra cooler or two? For to put kegs in. For to be iced.
I know somebody raised their hand. Bryant was that you.

I think I can squeeze a cooler in the truck bed.

I think we need 2 for the kegs, 2 for the food and probably 1 more for extra beverages

Aught to be some more local area peeps that could squeeze in an empty cooler. I am going to be running low on room myself. And I only have to bring me. You guys making long the long treks are really gonna be pressed for space.

I have a 2 large coolers I can bring, plus I am bringing the Tahoe, so I should have plenty of space.  Just need to ensure I have room for Rum and pepsi in the cooler!  [thumbsup]  So if we need to bring something SPEAK THE F UP!  [laugh] [laugh]

Happy to carry down foodage, liquid refreshments, or whatever's needed [thumbsup]

Awesome! I didn't get near enough Duvel last time.  [drink]   Luckily Jason came in the nick of time to save our parched throats.  [thumbsup]

The aft-end of the PugglePod9000 will be filled with "IAMS Smart Puppy" kibble, if anyone needs some...

Oh, yeah, Patron silver too...   [thumbsup]

Working on that today... and finishing another project that should free some time...

A sidecar would be easy, but this thing looks like a little motorcycle (on one wheel) and is articulated so it leans when I do on my bike...
A (large) bit of work still to be done...
but it is getting there

Nobody has ever made anything like it before.
It should be something if it all works out.

And the maiden trip will be the hill country ride!  :)

COFFEE!!!! GOT THAT COVERED!!!  <---I'd leave home without money before I left without coffee.  Don't worry.  It'll be something good...

Do we need grilling utensils?

Eating utensils, paper plates, and napkins and paper towels is probably a must have.

Well...
I am now. :P
That's why I am broke, and living out at my little lake house now.
Which, except for the broke part, rocks! ;D

But, the whole reason my kegorator isn't a rusty old fridge with some taps stuck on it, is I didn't want to have arguments about whether it belonged in the house. I skinned this bad boy in some nice birch panel, gave it some decent trim, put it on casters so I could roll it to wherever it needed to be every time someone wanted to rearrange. etc.

I be a considerate fella.

I guess.
870 sq ft and no garage. But that just means less house to clean.

My spare bedroom is currently the garage. Well that and my dead Bronco. The inside of both is scary.
The kitchen, laundry room and a closet all pull duties as the brewery.

But... yeah pretty much. :)
Especially when I walk across the street with my dog and jump in the lake.  ;D
Stop in sometime, if your in the neighborhood. Currently the bar is open to the public on Friday and Saturday.  ;)

One day I will build a real "Garage". Then beer drinkers and motorcycle riders will rejoice.
They will flock to the "lakehouse" for beer, bikes, fun and sun.
Oh yes. If I build it... they will come.

Now... somebody find me a job that pays in something other than peanuts.

I'll be leaving from Canyon Lake Friday morningish.

But almost everyone coming in from DFW and Houston that I know of, is arriving in Austin on Thursday night, staying the night, and then heading out Friday morning sometime. You should have no problem hooking up with one or all of them to head out to Koyote Ranch.

Well I'll be canceling one of the rooms in Austin later today then.

Right now we have 9 people leaving DFW; myself, Cory, Rich, George, Scott, Jim, RichD, William, and Ron.  Possibly 10 with Lane leaving on Friday

Lane I added you to the King Cabin since you're the first to ask for Patrick's spot.  There's still space in Jim's Kamp Cabin I believe as well.

Okay, so it looks like Svoloch lost his place in the big cabin?  That's okay, with Alan out, there is one bunk left in our Kamp Kabin.  I'll put you down for that one Patrick.

Unfortunately, now that Patrick is "on" again, I'm without a spot on a trailer/truck.   :-\

Third time post is a charm. ;D

I think hiero did mention maybe doing the fish fry.
Do I need to bring my turkey fryer and a Bayou Burner?
The only things I need to find/get would be a basket. Let me know though cuz were getting close here.

Oh and we would need one of those big huge things of oil.
If were going to do it up right we should plan on doing chips as well. (big ole steak fries)

Also,
Bryant are you bringing something to grill on, or is it just a fire pit?

If anyone is afraid they will not have a spot on a trailer...
you can always do it the old fashoned way and ride down there with me and the dog.
The trailer option will SURELY be easier.

Nothing in life worth having is easy.

I bet it will be quite a show/adventure.

It's just a cheapo fire pit from target, I don't think cooking will work on it.  Fish fry things we can buy in Kerrville

Rich,

I don't suppose you have a vehicle which could pull the trailer with our bikes?

 - Jim

Talk to Lane, he's got a truck I think.  Here's the rub... he's not leaving until Friday morning

Beer orders for the trip should probably take place in Austin.

Go to the Whip In for beer needs if you can. They have an absolutely stunning selection.

If your not familiar.

Sorry.
I have a car and truck... but have not had tags on them in several years.
...been two-wheeling it since I parked them.

Alright, so right now I am down for the following.

Turkey Fryer, Basket, Burner, Propane tank, CO2 tank, 1 Cooler, Kegs and Taps. Oh yeah, an extra air mattress.
Am I missing anything?

Oh yeah, my bike. Man I hope I'll have room for that... :-\
I think I'm going to have to wear my gear.

Wonder what the  [leo] would say if I drove by geared up with a full face helmet? [laugh]

Just a quick reality check, folks... Are we over-doing this? I don't want to place a huge burden on 1 or 2 people. This is 'sposed to be fun, not a part time job :P
Not making any judgements, I'm just throwing out the though for consideration.

yeah, i'm all for grabbing some food and beer en route to the cabin... i mean, whatever people are happy to bring is cool, but nobody should at all feel like they "need" to bring stuff otherwise we won't have a good time.  with that said, though, i'm totally blown away by the number of people putting as much $$ and time into this as they are; it's really awesome.  i don't think me picking up some groceries at whole foods is really going to come close to what some are putting into this...so please don't turn people down when they try to put some cash in your hat.  i mean, it's all good and all...but i want to kick in for what people are doing (read: i plan on drinking lots of beer!!)    [thumbsup]

What hiero said.

This is all just for fun. I like beer, I like brewing. I like sharing that passion. I am having a blast and were still over a week away. ;D
So don't worry, besides I will be bringing a tip jar. ;)

I was just jesting about having to much to haul. Along the lines of someone who asked if we had a kitchen sink.
Bringing the stuff for the fish fry doesn't put me out at all. I already have the gear. And we can use it for whatever if we need/want.
Huge pot of chili (NO BEANS  [laugh] ), a couple turkeys. Whatever. If hiero wants to do fish I am backing that up 100%. The man can cook.

Besides, this is for a long weekend, so it doesn't hurt to be a little over prepared.

"Especially" with Texas weather.
If things went south for the day weather wise I'd much rather have a cabin full of beer and food to be stuck in.

So which of you slackers is going to prep the potatoes? [cheeky]

er...   yeah, MurDuc, no one was letting you off the hook on the homebrew, man, all that was directed at others.  you must still bring lots of beer, it is an obligation, your bike is optional, and if you have to drive with your helmet on to get everything in the truck, well than you will just be all that much safer when you arrive!

I'm not sure if I understand your question, but I think I qualify.

I want to trailer down on Thursday, but don't have a spot on a trailer.
(disclaimer - Lisa's trailer is available for me to put my bike on, but I don't have anything to pull the trailer with).

If you have space on a truck or trailer, I'd like to hop on board!

Maybe I should use Lisa's trailer instead of Scott's. That way if Scott decides to tow a trailer he can use his own.

Great minds think alike, my friend. I can take my trailer & 3 bikes & some stuff, but it would be just a tad bit cozy with 3 in the cab of the truck, and the one in the middle NOT being Jessica Simpson  [laugh]

Can someone else fit Jim in somewhere?

Depending on when Ron and William are leaving, the NOT Jessica Simpson could ride in Ron's SUV.

Another thought would be for me to pick up the Ft Worth guy's; Jim, Cory, and George. While Scott takes the Dallas folks.

If Jim's bike is being toted by somebody, and we can coordinate it all, I should have room for another human in my vehicle.  I'm flexible, as long as my goal of drinking beer in Austin is achieved.

Cool Guys!

Well, I work 5 minutes from Alan's house, and will probably be at his place right about 4:30pm on Thursday.  I was planning to ride my bike to Alan's and load it on the trailer there.  So... depending on which trailer my bike gets loaded on, it may determine when/how I get it to the toe-ee.

So, who's towing my bike?

We'll figure this out.  [thumbsup]

this thread makes me have to think harder than when i'm actually working.

i'm fine with loading up with whomever.  i'll be okay to load up the night prior if it makes more sense for me to go with scott; i can probably get a ride back from brandi after i drop it off and get it loaded.  the only thing is that i wouldn't have a way to the warehome thursday around noon, though scott could drive through downtown and pick me up along the way, too.  i have a four-pack of ratchet straps, but no canyon dancer/cyclecynch.  charles has an extra he said but i might not see westsiders before we leave next thursday.  just FYI.

No, no, no.... you have to READ the thread! All the little words are IMPORTANT! I've got room for a bike only. No can fit 3 peeps in the cab.
Anyone bring a bike over on Wednesday will need their own straps, & I strongly recommend a canyon dancer & soft ties!!!!!!

Not sure when LSmart is leaving, but i think that it'd be easier for the dallas folks to leave with him. The Dallas guys look to be loaded wed night.

This is of course schedule depending. If this doesn't work for somebody pipe up and let us know. Otherwise enjoy he slab session to austin

Some details from the south of Dallas contingent.

I live in Lancaster, south of I-20. Will is trailering and riding with me in the Tahoe. We can take another rider, and maybe another if needed. I'll have to review the thread but I think Jim has first dibs.

We plan to leave Thursday afternoon as soon as Will can ditch work. We haven't worked out the details on loading up and such.

If a westie needs a ride maybe they can ride in great discomfort with other westies to Hillsboro where we could meet up. Then they could hop aboard with us.

Yep, no problem.  We're here for the long weekend or anytime next week is fine.  I've got a Canyon Dancer and some tie downs I can pitch in as well.

I thought the iphone peeps might find this tip handy for the upcoming trip. You can bookmark locations within the Maps app by scrolling to the area (i.e. Austin) and searching for the location. Click on the result and select "Add to Bookmarks" towards the bottom of the info page.

I've already bookmarked the hotel, Red Fez, Whip In and Koyote Ranch so they're there if I need 'em. Did I miss anything?

 [thumbsup]

Ming's cafe on guadalupe would be a good place to drop by. Fai, the owner is a motorcycle enthusiast and owns a Bostrom 998.

The Motovation Accessories HQ is in Austin as well.

I don't think Rich has a Canyon Dancer. I could pick it up tonight if it's OK for Rich to use it...

Charles had said he didn't mind me using it initially...i just haven't seen him since a couple weeks back to grab it.  i have a set of ratchet straps i can bring along as well... if one of the eastsiders sees one of the westsiders before next wednesday, maybe someone could grab it.  but what are the odds of that happening??

Lisa, we may have a use for your canyon dancer.  I have my cyclecynch and wheel chocks just about set for the truck.  I'll give you a call this Saturday sometime and figure out when I can come out and borrow the N2F-Trailer   [thumbsup]

This table is the correct and final.

Rich will get a lift from William to Ron's place.

Since Salt & Pepper (Scott & Patrick) will be in Austin long before the rest of us, let's try and grab a late supper downtown before drinking time. Hopefully we'll be able to hook up with RichD & David/The Houston guys for supper.

Since we only have 10 folks staying downtown, I'll cancel the 6th room tomorrow.

Ok,
Beer things are progressing well. Thus far outlook is excellent.

Attention hiero.
Unfortunately, regarding the fish fry, I can't seem to find a basket that fits my kettle.
Let me rephrase, I can't find a basket for my kettle that doesn't come with a whole new kettle and burner.  :P

I am still looking, but running out of off time between now and the Run.

Any kind of fry basket or rig it options some one may have speak up.
My kettle inside dia is approx 11.75".

I guess we could just batter em, through em in, and "fish" them out. [cheeky]

hmm, ok, well, maybe I'll just have my parents go ahead and cook a bunch of stuff and then we can just reheat in the oven when we get to koyote... not the best option, but their stuff is still very good reheated correctly  [thumbsup]  plus I won't have to worry about raw fish sitting around in a cooler...

...& Spare keys, just in case  ;)...

Strange things happen.  I was having a few "post-lowside" beverages in BFE in my 1098.. to help get that issue off my mind.
I went to leave and fumbled the key deep into the fairing!

A moment of panic hit (like I needed anything else to happen that day)  ..and then I remembered  -SPARE KEY IN THE WALLET!

Unlocked the tail -Got the 3MM T-handle, removed the fairing, fished out the key.

Moral of the story: Have a fairing wrench.  Carry a SPARE Key.

If you've got an 'Effed-Up tire nut size you better carry a socket too (55MM for the 1098 of Aluminum in the tail...)
FUSES!!!!

Allen wrenches...

Anything else?

Not only is he my co-brewer, but he is the one that got me started with this hobbyaddiction to begin with.
I got pretty heavy into it really fast, which in turn caused him to start ramping up.
Now we constantly egg each other on to greater feats of brewing and brewing projects.
We both have big events this weekend, so we joined forces and have been whirlwind brewing for the last couple months.

So everyone let us give thanks to the great Sven, for this, the beer we are about to consume.  ;D Prost!  [beer]

Knock on wood, say your prayers, thank the goddess, give offerings to the gods, think positive thoughts...

Whatever your bag keep it up, so far the weather is looking absolutely awesome. Hot. But clear.
Looks like it's even going to cool down enough in the evenings to make it comfy for sleeping out. :D

I did one more transfer today. I have one left.
I will be doing some cold conditioning and carbonating during the next few days.
Based on uh... quality control sampling, I will decide what is actually going on Thursday.
I'll post up a list, so those picking up bottled beverages in Austin on the way out have a heads up what we're going to have on tap.

hmmm, not sure what kind of oil, what you think mur?

Unless someone has allergies??? I'd say peanut oil, which I think is what comes in those big huge jugs for turkey fryers.
It's good for high temps. It's vegan too so we could fry up some veggies as well mmmmmm... If we had some vegan batter svoloch would be pleased.
I assume your batter does have dairy, can you bring the batter dry ingredients and add the milk/buttermilk at the cabin? The more batter the better. I can bring a jug of soymilk, I always have some in the fridge, and we can make up a separate vegan batch for the veggies.
We need big huge bag of potatoes for "chips" anyway, but we could also get some zucchini, big ole white onions (bloomin onions? ;D ), cauliflower, etc. I mean basically once we have a big pot of hot oil the more use we get out of it, the batter. [laugh]

Pickles? Green tomatoes? Okra? Folks can just grab a bunch of whatever favs, add some tasty sauces/dips. Bam!

Then we can set up a huge platter with all kinds of stuff to dip in around it. Sit around drink, throw stuff in to fry, drink, pull stuff out, drink, eat, throw more stuff in. Till everyone is ready to pass out from food coma or inebriation or combination there of. Last one down shuts off the burner and the lights. Booya!
 ;D

*edit* We could also make beer batter with the dry ingredients if that's not what you were already planning. A slightly hoppy lager or maybe a marzen would be my first choice. But really just something we won't mind drinking the rest of... [thumbsup]

Heiro,

I got some beer battered pollack fillets that I can give you guys.  I probably have 10 lbs worth.  I will give them to Bryant when he comes and picks up the 40 lbs of Danish baby back ribs I have set aside for you guys.

Have we narrowed it down to peanut oil? Quantity pleeze??

Anywhere that sells turkey fryers (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) should have the big jugs of oil for frying a turkey somewhere near them. I want to say they are 4 gallon jugs, but I am not for sure. Turkeys provide a lot of displacement, so those might be less.

We would want 4 gallons.

Are we sure we shouldn't be leaving wedn. night?  It would literally add one more night of drinking.  give it some thought, because I am concerned that we are not allowing enough time in the trip for drink and smack talk.

Directions to Koyote Ranch

From Kerrville (This route is recommended for autos & motorcycles only)

Hwy 16 has consistently been placed on Texas Monthly’s “10 Most Scenic Drives in Texas” list.  The drive from Kerrville to Koyote Ranch includes much of this beauty, but it also includes almost 5 miles of switchback turns, which rival any mountain road in America.  While this is a beautiful drive, it is not recommended for most RVs.  Take Hwy 16 south out of Kerrville, set your odometer at zero as you cross the Guadalupe River in Kerrville.  About 9 miles out of town you will begin your climb to a local landmark known as the Eagle’s Nest.  As you begin to come off the hill, Koyote Ranch Hill Country is on the right (west) approximately 14.2 miles from the river bridge in Kerrville.

From Kerrville (RV Route)

The easiest drive with an RV from Kerrville to the Ranch is approximately 20 minutes longer.

Take the Hwy 16 (Kerrville) exit off I-10. Go south towards Kerrville. Approximately .5 miles take Loop 534 East to Hwy 173 (approximately 4.5 miles). Proceed south towards Bandera. Approximately 10 miles south of town you will come to historic Camp Verde.  Proceed south approximately 2 miles and turn right (west) on Hwy 2828.  After about 10 miles, turn right (north) on Hwy 16 and proceed 2.5 miles to Medina.  (Note: Hwy 2828 will dead end into Hwy 16.)  Medina is home to the Texas International Apple Festival - and a great place to get one of the best apple turnovers in the world. Continue north out of Medina approximately 6 miles where the Medina Children’s Home is your next landmark. Koyote Ranch Hill Country is 1.8 miles north of Medina Children’s Home on the west side of Hwy 16.

These directions seem to come out of SA on I-10.  Be sure to check your own directions with google or yahoo

If that's your route I'll try to hook up with you at 281 and 46. You'll be just down the street from the "Lakehome". Like 5 miles.

FYI, that route will also take you right past The Dodging Duck (http://www.dodgingduck.com/) brewhaus. It is on 46 on the right as you come into Boerne. Would be a good spot to stop for lunch. [thumbsup]
Seems almost required given the name. ;D
It is a little brewpub in a converted house, with the brewery setup in an outbuilding/garage. There is patio seating in the front and ample parking in the back. It has it's own paved lot.
I went out the other day to sample their latest. Yummy stuff.   [drink]

There's only so much you can do with the Svoloch...  just empathize with his difficult life, be glad it is not your own ( although you are probably envious of his wit and ease with women ), and buy him beers.  often.  if you have the wherewithal to go into brewing, I know that Murduc has found an excellent way to deal with the Svoloch.

Cheers, and I am looking forward to tomorrow, oh yes, I am looking forward to it.  yes.  tomorrow.  I'm ready now.  can we leave now?

I plan on waking up at 7:05am, in a panic, because Scott is supposed to pick me up at 7am.  I will panic because I have not packed yet, have not been to any stores, am not very sure of if i have any clean jeans or tshirts.

Then I will realize several key things:

1) holy shite, did I every really think Scott would show up at 7?  HAHAHAHAHAHA, no way.  I have 45 minutes left!!!!  [thumbsup]

2) do I give a flying f~ck if my jeans are clean?  no.  tshirts?  not really.  Clean underwear is my only priority

3) i have a bag.  stuff crap into the bag, put the coffee on, halfheartedly brush my teeth ( wth, it's only Scott ), sit out on the porch, and still have 28 minutes to waste before Scott shows up   [thumbsup]

4)  [coffee]  wait a minute, Scott is driving!!   [drink]  [drink]

Was anybody aware of these guys?  They take pics of bikes and cars driving through the Hill Country, then post them on their website and offer the prints for sale.

http://www.txmotofoto.com/

Snippet from their website explaining...

"We are a father and son team.  We are passionate about motorcycles...  we are here... to offer you the memories of your ride.  What better place than the Texas Hill Country. We can usually be found somewhere in the Hill Country on just about every weekend. There are so many roads to ride and places to see that we can’t be at all of them all of the time. We’re sorry if we missed you, but keep looking because if you see us that means we saw you and it is very likely that your ride picture will be posted."

Road condition alert!

I got this info from another Duc rider from Austin.  He and 3 other guys rode the Three Sisters last weekend.  He had this bit of warning based on their experience:

"One word of warning: the last 5-6 miles of RR337 into Leaky are a nightmare .... the road surface is gone and you end up on gravel, rocks and boulders!"  :o

Just stopped in Leakey for a little breakey [cheeky]

Great riding! A couple minor things, Ronr lost his rear brake, CJ may be having clutch "issues", & the Pughle Pod 9000 is getting a bit of welding done...

Post by: Ronr on May 31, 2008, 10:25:19 AM
Heiro and his magic backpack got me going. THANKS!!!

My caliper nearly welded itself to the rotor and threw molten metal all over the rear wheel. Can't believe I didn't feel it dragging at all. Guys behind me said they could smell it.

Current project is to fix George's clutch. Not sure what the problem is yet.

RichD already got the welding repair done on the PugglePod 9000.

More updates...

We've all returned safe and sound to "base camp".  Additional news since that which Scott and Ron have provided:

LEO Encounters:
BarneePhife - pulled over by Constable because he couldn't see my license plate.  Let go with a warning.
MurDuc - ticked for 101 in a 70.

George's clutch is kaput - no more riding his bike this weekend.   >:(
Chipo's tire is millimeters from explosion.  Time for a burnout event to send it off in style!

Happy to report, there were no injuries or crashes!  [beer]

What happened to the cross bracing on the Puggle Pod's attachment arms?? Inquiring minds want to know.

What super groovy, delicious food and beer serving Hill Country patio are you all planning on watching the bike races from today? Great weekend for us homebound riders... AMA SBK (for those that care) and World SBK from Miller today and MotoGP from Mugello tonight on Speed TV. If you can't be on the bike riding the Three Sisters having Jen and Colin at the movies and me home alone with the remote will have to do! [clap] [wine]

Pull up a chair...

Ron's 1098 received an emergency rear-brakectomy. Most likely Post Tramatic Stress Syndrome from the track day get-off.

"Clutchless George" has been sidelined, although he is currently mounting the White Unicorn.

The PP9000 has fully recovered with some rewelding. Evidently an initial weld was faulty. Legal action is pending.

My tyre completely died yesterday, so Desmolu offered to let me ride her bike with her in the back... Of course I had to do a repeat performance and proceeded to shred her tyre down as well..

Time for shut-eye, resting up for 3 Sisters in the morning ;)

Saying this was a GREAT trip doesn't even begin to describe the fun  I had.  Fabulous people, BEER, roads, BEER, scenery, lodging, BEER, food, even the local Five-0 was pretty understanding (in one instance) and let's not forget the BEER! The commemorative glasses were just WAY over the top. Huge shout out (or should I say STOUT out) to everyone that helped organize, supply and attend for making this an incredible weekend. Thanks all and for those that missed it, DO NOT MISS THE NEXT ONE!

make the beast with two backsING AWESOME WEEKEND!!!!

My tyre completely died yesterday, so Desmolu offered to let me ride her bike with her in the back... Of course I had to do a repeat performance and proceeded to shred her tyre down as well..

Pics to follow...

CG here chilling' while others are getting' some riding in before we leave.

This was the best freakin' time! Our group has to be the best folks around. I got to enjoy great company, killer beer, awesome food, WOW riding, and the most unusual moments.

Thanks to David for trying everything possible on the side of a hot gravel road to fix the clutch...and to Cory, both Rich's, Bryant, Jim, and Patrick for helping me deal with the bike and for keeping me company. I did get to ride yesterday compliments of Bryant letting me mount the White Unicorn and Jason letting Bryant ride his cool Monster.

David and Rich D--The fish and ribs were beyond words. Thanks Swanny for the hook up on the food. [thumbsup] Jason, you are the beer master. Man drinking over-the-counter beer will suck after this trip!

I'll post some pigs, an update on the bike, and more thanks when I get back.

I made it home...

The device in my domicile that attempts to reduce Texas summer temps to something somewhat bearable was not functioning. :'(
Being the Dude that I am, I managed to rig it. But it made me late for work.

Far worse it made me forget to bring a mini-USB cable to work so I could upload some photos. >:(

RichD.
Apparently there is no actually Courthouse in Medina. To small I guess. Just a J.P.'s office where I am suppose to show up to get A-Styled. The nearest "seat of power" would be Bandera, then Kerrville. Should I just do my "180 turn" at the Bandera courthouse to choose my help. Or should I take a shot at "the man" in Kerrville since Bandera is pretty friggin small as well? Would that person really be able to help with the Medina ticket?

I am completely clueless about these things. ??? PM me if you'd rather.

I wonder if you call the contact number on the ticket and ask to speak to the judge (JP or otherwise) and ask for a chance to do defensive driving to keep the ticket off your record.  On a trip to Big Ben, I got a ticket from the local sherrif's deputy of Jonhson County.  The Judge let me do defensive driving and gave me probation.  It cost the same as paying the ticket but it does not get reported to the state.  Afterall it's just a business and your cost for entertaining yourself.

Unfortunately, thanks to the "reported" speed, DD is not an option on my violation.

P.S. I am not trying to get out of paying for my offense. I man up with the best of em when the time comes. But taking it in the bobo on my insurance, on my salary, because a bored constable hooked me up with no lube on rather questionable stop in the middle of absolutely nowhere with absolutely no one around isn't manning up. It's grabbing your ankles. I am perfectly willing to pay for my "error", but in this case I think the funds are going to someone besides the county. And that's based on the advice of my council... of elders.  ;)

Sorry to hear that.  Did not mean to imply that you did not want to pay the fine.  Just commenting that whether you pay the fine or ask for probation, the cost is the same.  The name of the fee (fine vs "court cost") may be different but the system gets you either way hence it is a "business" as far as I'm concerned.

Sorry, I might be a bit touchy at the moment. Coming home to no A/C was not fun, and someone at work decided tonight would be a good night to let all hell break loose... and not inform the devil. :P

What a trip!

It was great to see some new faces out on a HC run and of course it was great to have some of the usuals out there too.

Most of the issues and incidents have been mentioned, so I'll just focus on the great stuff.

Many many many thanks to Swanny for the food donation.

MurDuc the brewmiester himself out did himself and brought some outstanding beer.

Hiero, probably could have cooked up dinner and replaced a clutch at he same time. Seriously, thanks for the cooking and the tech repair on the disabled bikes.

DLS, thanks for leading the pack around the HC. Chasing a PS1000 in the hills is fun.

Most importantly everybody iin our group has made it home safely.

Here's to another great trip.  [beer]

Koyote-3 Sisters-Koyote is 191.2 miles.
We did that yesterday morning in just over 4 hours (keep in mind a LOT of 10 & 15 mph corners)
Emptied the cabin AND loaded bikes in 1 hour, & made Fredericksburg by 5:00 for supper...

Are we not Men?

It's only 4 months away people!  We can't hope to match the grandeur of the Spring 2008 HC Ride unless we start planning now!  We need committees, officials, bylaws, maps, schedules, and sufficient time for the Brewmister to start the next 35 gallons!  [drink]

well, except that literally less than a mile back to scott's house, one of the tie downs that held my bike on BROKE...

luckily it doesn't look like much damage except for some minor scrapes on the header pipe and a nice gouge in the powdercoat on the bottom of my right side engine case cover  :'(

you know, someone did mention making a Big Bend trip next time instead of Hill Country.  Would be a MUCH bigger trip though...

well, i may still have nipples on my fronts, and the moving violation i ended up with was pretty tame...but that was some pretty intense riding.  not to be too redundant here, but i would be remiss if i didn't also add my huge thanks to all the people that had such a big part in making this an awesome weekend all-around.  really though everyone was helping out and chipping in and it just made for an awesome weekend.  maybe next time cory can actually get off work a couple hours later, and it'll be perfect   :P

so anyway, here's to more one-liners than i could ever remember sober, great beer, great food, great riding (= great learning for me), lots of pics, no freaking iFone reception (seriously, we get it, there's not much reception out there), more traffic stops than can be recalled, and most importantly, showering for the first time this morning, since thursday morning.   [thumbsup]

In my camera.

I am feeling a lot better today.
My rigged A/C held out, and even though I left work late as hell I got 8 solid hours on my bed of the gods. (Memory foam FTW)

I am hoping things at work slow down enough to get some pics up. Definitely not going to have time to make a THCR page ATM though.

I just one to chime in as well on the camaraderie and effort everyone puts into these things. The members of this group really place top priority on taking care of one another, making sure everyone feels welcome and has as much fun as the law will allow. Or even a little past...  [evil]

Even the other people we met in our travels end up walking away with a smile on their face. I know we made some folks weekends with Puggle Pod™ encounters, deep fried ribs, friendly conversation... and of course a beer or three.  [evil]

You guys rock. I count myself lucky to have met you all. [thumbsup]

I think it's safe to say they really like LSD at Koyote, and plenty of people were back at home or office on Monday telling everyone how awesome LSD is. ;D

Did everyone have a chance to kick in some ingredient donations?

I know I did... but I think there should be a PRE-DONATION prior to next trip to help minimize the personal fiscal impact to Mr. Murdock.

Sooo, if we setup a paypal account and each send in $5... why does this sound familiar?   [laugh]

Seriously though, Jason, let us know where we can hit you up with some $$$ for ingredients before the next trip  [thumbsup]

"If you could all just send me $20... oh wait you already did."

I still haven't emptied the thing but I am going to go out on a limb and say that ingredients were totally covered.
And the glasses.
And probably a respectable hourly rate for my brew time...

I mean there was a c-note in there, yo. :o
Someone drank a lot of beer or was feeling very generous. Probably one causing the other. ;D

More importantly, did everyone end up with a glass or two?

Swanny to say it mildly, they kicked ass.

We had the fish the first night and I don't think they made it past the first few hours after we got into Koyote Ranch.

David did the ribs up great.  Everybody was licking their fingers (Patrick excluded of course)

dude...i'm not a *huge* fan of ribs normally...but i was freaking devouring these things...my face was "slathered" in sauce.  same with the fish, dude...and i don't like stuff from the water... but it was so freaking tasty.

hmm..that's funny, because i could have sworn i saw patrick licking people's fingers, but maybe that was for other reasons...  and yeah, props to David and RichD for some skills on the grills!   [thumbsup]

Hellz ya, the ribs and fish rocked! all we did to the fish was dip it in lime juice b4 frying and it was sooooo tasty!

and MurDuc, man - needless to say thank thank you for the new prized possession beer glass. complete awesomeness. I actually didn't eat most of the weekend to save room for all the Shakespeare Stout (I prolly drank half of it). If you ever wanna start a brewpub, hit me up for an investment!

Wow... Now I feel completely horrible about the full 17 bucks I left there (the entire contents of my wallet after the trip)

Drinking glass is awesome though, the only problem is that after drinking nothing but the best this whole weekend, how am I supposed to go back to Keystone???? ??? [puke] [puke] [puke] [puke] [bang] [bang]

Believe me, it's a reoccurring thought. I was seriously trying to work some mojo at The Dodging Duck while waiting for you guys. Trying to get in on some brew days. I have Thu-Fri-Sat off currently, and would really like to put some time in on a "nano" brewery setup like his. Maybe get some first hand looks at costs/profits and such as well.
I've even had all the paperwork for getting a brewpub licensed in Texas for about 2 years now. Idly reading through it now and then.

I don't know where to begin.  I had such a great time doing everything.

Bryant - great job organizing and setting us up in Austin and The Ranch.  Within walking distance from our hotel to various pubs and eateries in the 6th Street neighborhood.  But of course who wants to walk when you can ride!  And I still owe ya for beers at the Gingerman.  I think you bought about 5 pitchers!!
MurDuc - Holy crap man, you make some awesome freeking beers!!  I brought some store bought beers for people that aren't into good beer, but everybody was devouring the homebrew.  That's a great sign of a quality group!  And the glasses were a surprise.  Those really turned out nice.  Let me know if you're ever looking to adopt.
RichD - Enjoyed the good bs, and we all got to experience the maiden voyage of the genius that is the PugglePod 9000.  Duke was a pretty cool little guy too.  Maybe next time, learn to cook some ribs....
Duc L'Smart - We needed a good dictator kicking our arses every now and then.  It was too easy to slip into total slacker mode and relax on the porch looking at the creek, the mountains, the trees, enjoying the breeze and witty banter, listening to the soft scrubbing sounds of Cory and his can of Plexxus.  I know it's a pain riding point all the time, but I really appreciated it.  You probably saved me from myself.
Will - my first Monster ride!  Took a little getting used to, but very fun.
Hiero - Thank You, for bringing your tool kit and fixing my brake issue so I could keep going.  That could have turned out ugly, based on some stories I heard from some of the other guys in the group.  Thanks for preparing the food too.  Couldn't have been better.
Swanny - Wish you could have made it down.  Very Nice of you to provide all that meat and fish.  It went down really well after riding all day and not eating much out on the road.
Cory - I nearly lost my license plate when one of my little wing nut reflectors fell off. Appreciate the replacement
ScottDuex - for stopping me before my license plate flew off!
Ducdood - we all appreciated the box of burgers - thanks!
Barnee Phife - cool camera rig for videoing the rides.  Excellent capture of Will flying by the Constable.  And the articulating P-Pod in action on the road.

Everybody - just hanging out in the cabin and at the pool, getting to know the local guys better, meeting the group from down south.  Everybody pitched in and helped each other out, with preparing the meals, cleaning up, buying rounds of gas.  I think we had at least 10 people work together pumping up an air mattress that refused to inflate.  A great group of folks, and can't wait for the next time.

Ok seriously people, I can not remember the last time I've had so much fun. There's definitely an inverse relationship to the amount of beer drank  [drink] and the amount one can remember [bang].  With all the pics and one-liners posted we'll always have a pretty good recap to refresh our memories.

All the usual suspects have been thanked and I won't belabor the point other than to give my personal thanks to you. Bryant, David, Jason, Swanny... you guys always go above and beyond. If you ever need anything, I'm there.   [thumbsup]  ... If David and Jason ever open a brew pub with Jalapeno/Cilantro chutney bbq ribs on the menu, you've got about 15 guys who'd invest.

Ron, thanks for helping me get my bike transported safely and for the demo ride yesterday. I'm already trying to figure out how I can possibly afford a black 1098S.  ;D  The road beers were a nice added touch.  [beer]

Thanks to Patrick, Cory, Scott, Rich & Rich for the demo rides on Sunday. That was truly an awesome experience I'll never forget.  [moto]

George and Lane, thanks for the cigars...

Chipo, DesmoLu, ScottDeux (man that was a bad-ass run  [moto]) and the rest of the Austin crew (permanent or temporary) at Mings ... it was great meeting you.

Definitely a good group. I'd take a bullet for any of you (and by bullet I mean hot woman and or cold beer ;D ).

Duke is TEN YEARS OLD TODAY!!!

That is a lot of old for a little dog.   :)

We've had a lot of adventures
and they all started with this EPIC trip.
He was just eight months old...

Where has the time gone?
Where have the people gone!..?

Stinkerdog still has a few adventures left in him I think.
Time will tell...

Somebody is getting BBQ and beer for dinner tonight. ;)
(Shhhhh!  Don't tell him!)
