Title: Will an 1100evo motor fit an S2R1k?
Post by: He Man on July 13, 2012, 05:44:22 PM
found this for a great price!

http://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/mcy/3131341971.html (http://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/mcy/3131341971.html)

im not sure about the electronics package, but aside from getting a flash and a PCIII hows the fitment in terms of the swingarm and engine mounting points? I dont think the older monster ever had this motor style in it....

I would assume the physical aspects would all be compatible

wiring/electronics would need a little work
ds vs nonds
mm vs siemens. etc

Seems like a good price on the engine. A lot of engines for sale have the clutch pulled out and sold seperately.  But they can't do that as easily with a wet clutch.  Good luck. I hope it works out.

Completely different FI systems, Marelli vs Siemens.  I don't think there is a flash to fix this.  Suppose you could go with a set of FCRs?  You might also want to confirm the swing arm mounting points are the same.  That can be fixed.

rotation sensor is the same as 2012 848 evo, meaning it's the normal 3 wire part.  which is the only engine management issue.  so it'll connect up to the s2r1000 loom just fine.  you'll need some single plug coils tho.

i can't see any reason why the inlet manifolds would be different or the exhaust ports, so it'd have to drop straight in i'd say.

ecu wise the single spark thing could require a different spark map (needs more advance), but apart from that it's just fuelling.  should be pretty easy.

Sounds like a good price on the engine, the engine looks very complete.  Brads info on the speed sensor being the same is a good sign. What about the engine oil temp sensor? It is not in the valve cover like the older engines, I can not tell from the pics if it is in the rear cylinder like the 696's.  If it is the 696 style does any one know if the resistance vs. temp scale is the same? Would prob. be a good idea to get programable engine management for it, if you can wire it to the marelli harness a microtec may be a good option. http://www.ducshop.com/eshopprod_cat_7586-90434_product_1193087.Ducshop_Microtec_ECU_M197_for_.htm (http://www.ducshop.com/eshopprod_cat_7586-90434_product_1193087.Ducshop_Microtec_ECU_M197_for_.htm)

hadn't thought of the temp sensor, it's in the vertical cylinder.  i assume it's an ntc, most are.  the manual tells you to check it via the dds, which is apparantly the only way to do it these days.  there's no other specs.

should be easy enough to adapt anyway.

Another thing I forgot about if trying to adapt a siemens engine to marrelli electronics. While the crank sensor is the same, the
gear it reads off is different.  The siemens bikes have 2 pick ups on the gear to pick up every crank revolution instead of every other revolution like the marelli set up.  So a marelli ecu would read double the rpm.  The gear would be an easy swap, just one more thing to consider.
Of coarse if you are opening the motor up to swap gears, then it would be worth looking into adapting a dryclutch to it as well  [evil].  Hope things work out on this project.

to me, the swap would be easier with the wiring and ecu

Just done a conversion of a Monster1100 engine(also siemens ECU) into a Sport Classic (5AM Ecu).
Here are my findings.
- Changed the timing gear to a pair from a HyperMotard (with 5AM Ecu).
- Used the M1100 engine temp sensor in rear cylinder.
- Had to reuse the oiltempsensor that is in the oilstrainer from old engine for the Instrument.
- Used the SportClassic DP map as a base with added fuel for the extra cc.

The only difference would be to use singel ignition coils and adjust the sparkmap accordingly.

That sounds like WAYY too much money, im lookign at harnessess ECU and all that jazz. at 2.5k its the same as doing a built 1100cc motor to try and push close to 95 ponies at teh wheel.

Build the motor!
Travman did and got 95hp with stock cams. Big bore, hi comp, porting and DP cams for 100!

Or

1100 Evo with FCR 41s and Igniteck.

Yeah I know, easy to say when its not my money.

I really want the new multi 1200. I rather fix the motor as cheaply as possible and get a new shock and run it until i can buy a multi1200 for around 9k.

[thumbsup] I'm with you on that one. Likely I'll do the same when I hit stateside with a job.

back the make the beast with two backs up guys!!! :o :o  alert the captain!

this might happen. $1500 for head work, or $1500 (neg) for a new motor, and maybe $500 in parts and tuning. Brad Black, hnracing i might be PMing you soon!

Based on photographic evidence, it looks like everything is bolt on. I will now for sure saturday afternoon when i go measure the thing out. Even if its not, i dont think its off by much and im pretty sure i could mill down the case without even breaking a bolt open.
