Title: RIP SIMONCELLI
Post by: monstermick58 on October 23, 2011, 01:17:36 AM
Its a sad day when anyone in our motorcycling community dies, its also a tragic when a character like Simoncelli died doing what they love doing.

Very sad man, it was one hell of a crash. Simoncelli was an awsome individual and equally so a sportsman. Very very sad.

A colourful character, was Simoncelli,.......taking over from Rossi there i felt.........
I was on the phone to Rob S talking my usual shit when it happened....
Less than 30 minutes prior to the start I was watching Simo explainig a Moto GP bike and its workings...broken English and all made him even more likeable.......
A very sad day indeed..............

I dont recommend watching the replay. it's fked up. no one needs to see that.

A sad day indeed.  We all love to ride and we all know the risks but any loss like this is still a tragedy.

RIP Marco.  You brought us great enjoyment and you will be sadly missed.  Our thoughts and prayers go out for your family and friends.

He very obviously believed in the saying "Race Hard or go Home!" Sometimesw to his detriment,

but there was never any doubt of his ability and passion!  [thumbsup]

Lost waaaay too soon! RIP Marco  :( :o

its the same sickening feeling as senna.what an omen in that last interview where he clumsly describes his bike in sixty seconds
he finally points to the kill switch and says he is now turning off....R.I.P Marco.

Yeah bit strange.  I was down the Island, waved to him in the BMW riders procession, watched him race...all just a week ago and now gone.  RIP #58 Super Sic

The missus was explaining what a character he was at a BBQ several hours before the race, then we watched him talk about his bike. When I saw that his helmet was off his head I had a very sick feeling. I hang on till the end of the telecast only to hear the devastating news.

RIP Marco. Every one around the world is going to miss your charm and your hair!

It brings back the memory of Wayne Gardner hitting a rider (Italian I think) who ran back onto the track after binning it and having his helmet ripped clean off!

He survived luckily although took a while to get well again!  :o

The vision makes my skin crawl!

Ciao Marco!  :(

Has anyone heard how Colin is??  ???

horrible horrible horrible day.  :'(
I've just watched this morning after not being able to bring myself to watch it last night while Annick was sitting beside me.
Watched until Gavin and Nick passed the news on, the emotion and devastation in their voices said it all.

We all just saw him larger than live here in Oz 7 days ago.

I hope Vale and Colin can recover from being involved in the acco, I know the Gardner acco took him a while to get right again.

Moto GP will never be the same.

RIP Sic #58

Physically, Colin has a dislocated shoulder.  God knows how he feels mentally, and Rossi, shattered I guess.

I'm wondering what the riders will do at the last round in Spain, I know they will observe a minute's silence, but will some riders pull the pin and not race?

Do you think Rossi will race? Or Stoner?

I was thinking the same thing.  But would it be more of a tribute to ride than not too? I wouldn't be surprised if Rossi didn't race.

Post by: dragonworld. on October 23, 2011, 06:13:48 PM
Bottom line is they all go racing with the full knowledge of the risks, and they have chosen this as their profession as well as their passion!

I can understand the blunting of the enthusiasm possibly (eg Soon to be Dad Stoner!) But they will assimilate the event and go on!

Title: Re: RIP SIMONCELLI
Post by: cakeman on October 23, 2011, 06:15:51 PM
I think they should call off the last race of the season and have some sort of fitting tribute at the track. I couldnt imagine to many of the riders would be in a great frame of mind to race

Title: Re: RIP SIMONCELLI

The almighty Dollar [evil] will rear its ugly head, and the "Big Bucks" behind the sponsors, media, et al will not want to lose ANY INCOME from MotoGP so I

think the pressure will be on to race!! Doesnt mean individual riders might not race though!?

$$$ and business before emotion!  ???

Title: Re: RIP SIMONCELLI
Post by: heatherp on October 23, 2011, 09:06:12 PM
For the sponsors it's about the money, yes.  But for the teams there are still positions to be decided and fans to be considered.  I think it's a bit like getting back on the horse.  The riders all know the dangers of the job they love doing.  Putting off racing  isn't going to change that.

If it wasn't so bloody cold and wet here today I would be out riding in remembrance.

I'm sure I'm not alone here, but it's been really difficulty to get over that crash.
The stark contrast between his effervescent personality and the grim stillness of the images immediately after impact.

In any case.

Great tribute from Jarno Trulli (via Mark Webber on Twitter)

Yes, I think about it a lot, and it makes me feel like crap. I think because he had such a great love of life that its particularly cruel. Also his age and so early in his career, you know if he was 34 yo or something, you could say at least he enjoyed a good 15years career .

Isn't that an internal sticker (to be seen through glass) ... might be backward on your toolbox.

At first glance Betty you are right, but if you read all you can ask for the same sticker to be glued the opposite way so you can put it on your toolbox (or something similar)
Still looks cool though IMO
