Title: Work Safe Pr0n
Post by: The Mad King Pepe' on September 02, 2010, 05:01:02 AM
A.K.A. sexy bikes. So it's not the usual pr0n, but it's still exciting and makes you [drool]

The build is described here: www.radicalducati.com/index.php?page=raceric (http://) (http://)

I'd go crazy if I had the money!

the tank reminds me of the Troll bikes that Donnie at DucPond built....

since he revamped his site, they aren't posted up anymore, but they are coooool!

I've always loved the work of Ghezzi and Brian. They really know how to bring out the hidden beauty in Guzzi bikes. This is their 'Fionda':

Yes they are!  Saw them out there on Friday.  Almost needed a bib.

I like the WrenchMonkees stuff, and now they've done a 750SS:

I dig their minimalistic style! And prices actually seem reasonable: 17K for their custom Sportster! Caveat: they seem reasonable to me after seeing what some people charge for their chromed tractors. ;)

In the end tho, if there is one bike I'd take out a loan to buy it would be this:
(http://www.motoaus.com/images/stories/bimota/bimota-tesi-1440.jpg) (http://www.bimotaamerica.com/bikes_t3da.html)
There is also a version with raw carbon fiber fairing similar to what they did with the 'Oro Nero' (black gold).

Yea, I've seen it.  It lost all appeal when I saw that it is going to be an I4, 600.

Nope, I3 675. Direct competition with the Triumph Daytona, and expected to cost less than a Ducati 848. Agusta expects to sell 10,000 per year.

Personally I'm glad to see them make something more affordable to common people.

Implied in the MV news story it's a 600cc triple...

Title: Re: Work Safe Pr0n
Post by: zooom on September 23, 2010, 03:32:30 AM
so maybe both are right AND wrong...

maybe it is a 3 cyl instead of an I-4 AND only 600cc's instead of 675?!?!?!

Title: Re: Work Safe Pr0n

Hmmmm  :-\

I think they'll either go with a 600cc I-4 or a 675cc I-3, no reason to mix and match.

Is there some reason they couldn't have an I3 be 600cc? and maybe the term "600" on the MV news page is just the category they are putting the bike in and not it's actual displacement.

Title: Re: Work Safe Pr0n

They very well could make a 600cc I3 but it would not compare well to the japanese 600 bikes (performance -- HP wise).

For a given displacement, a higher number of cylinders (fractioning??? not sure about the term), yields more HP. If you have fewer cylinders, you need to increase displacement to get the same HP: that's why Ducati had the 748/749 and Triumph had the 675 to compete with the 600 jap bikes.

I'm keeping an eye on what develops over at Mac Motorcycles (link (http://www.mac-motorcycles.com)). They were to source the engine from Buell (Blast), but I read they're working on a new source for production models. Kinda partial to the Ruby. Loving the simplicity for an everyday commuter... and occasional backwoods ramble.

Also looking at Fischer (link (http://www.fischer1.com/)) since a 1000cc v-twin is in the works. Given the factory is in Maryland (Eastern Shore) I've been thinking about riding out there one of these Saturdays to see if they've got any kind of showroom (or, at least, a bike to sit on).

That'd be cool! Maybe they'd do a factory-tour thing. Years ago I went with a group to the Buell factory, and while areas were off limits, there was still lots to see.

No clue on when/where. They're trying to wrap up their prototypes. Last design issue: where to put the battery? Fack that... It's a carbed single cylinder so I think it should be a kick start.

A modern kick start single for the road... I bet theres a market for that actually. Don't know jack about kick starts, how hard is it to kick over a 500cc 10:1 compression engine?

Actually... it can be pretty hard. Unless there's a compression release so you can ease it over tdc.

It would probably need one. My little CBR150R "driveway racer" has a compression release.

It's Ben Part's bike. MacGregor like it so much he asked him to make one for him. Ben dubbed it the "OB-1" (get it?)

Story is that so many people called Davida about the bike and not their helmet that they pulled the ad.

Don't know the details but I love the looks! It started either as a Guzzi Centauro or a Daytona (I hope the former!) with carbs instead of FI and a nice set of forks+brakes. Here's the page of a guy who converted a Centauro to a Cafe' Racer (http://www.centauro-owners.com/articles/marc_detournay/index.html).

Prefer the exhaust on the blue.

Agree 100% - why go to all the trouble to put slim / curvy parts to show off the motor and then put 2 large giant mufflers on the side?
The MotoGP-esque one one the blue bike looks much more in line with the rest of the design. Bet it's louder than, uh, feck.
Gotta love the air intake! Practical this bike is not, but you'll save on front tires I'll bet!

Just ordered issue 1 of this: http://www.italianmotormagazine.com/ITALIAN_MOTOR/What.html (http://www.italianmotormagazine.com/ITALIAN_MOTOR/What.html)

Well, the first issue is as good as I'd hoped. Basically a fanzine - no lifestyle junk just good pics and short articles about the bikes (and a car or two) in the pics. Seems the trend right now is towards these digest sized uber-focused magazines, that probably make the folks producing them no money (or negative money). There's an article in there on a Maserati 50cc 2 stroke bike. Thing is totally awesome.
Of course there's the ubiquitous blog: http://italianmotor.blogspot.com (http://italianmotor.blogspot.com) with more moto-pr0n

Gilera made a 600cc and a 350cc version. Only two problems with the bike were the small fuel tank and Gilera's pathetic marketing efforts. This was before the big SuMo boom and the only other similar bike was the KTM Duke, although I think the NordWest came out first.

Please don't mention the Dia<choke><cough>. Seriously, I think Ducati is going to do more damage to their image with that thing, which will cost them more that the profit they (won't) get selling an ugly super cruiser to a market that dried up 2 or 3 years ago. Hopefully I'm wrong on this.

Now for something completely different.

Maybe it's a bike and not a motorcycle, and maybe not "motor" cycle to some because it's electric, but I'd say this qualifies as moto-p0rn:

http://www.cycleexif.com/grace-pro-race (http://www.cycleexif.com/grace-pro-race)

Sadly I don't think any one of my bikes are worth what this thing probably costs. Maybe all of them together? Still no I'd guess.

By the way seems like Bimota will make a biposto version of the Tesi (with a DB7 like handlebar) and they have done away with the unusual front shock and gone with a traditional Ohlins.

More pics here (http://www.autoblog.com/photos/pagani-huayra/). It'll probably sell for a ridiculous amount of money and run on baby seals instead of gas, but still it's sexeeeyy! [drool]

Agreed. I think one smart point is:

Like lemmings running off the cliff into the sea, die-hard Ducatisti would have long ago run Ducati into the ground pursuing the ultimate in Superbike-only brands…in fact they did…several times.

The inconvenient truth in Italy is that the Ducati Diavel wasn’t made for the current Ducatisti — it was made for future ones. It shouldn’t be surprising that the Diavel is unappealing to many of the already indoctrinated, and that’s likely well and fine by Ducati. It’s not looking to up-sell its current rider base to this $17,000-$20,000 motorcycle, instead the Italian company is looking for fresh meat for the brand.

+1 on that, kind of makes me think of what happen(s/ed) at Guzzi.

Don't remember where I read this but there were a bunch of people really bashing the design of the Guzzi V12 concept bikes. Personally I think they look awesome and, aside from the silly rear view LCDs with cameras in the cylinder heads, they are just stunning!

I would actually like to copy their rear mud-guard design with the integrated licence plate + lights. I just need to figure out how to do it with an old SBK mono swingarm... :-\

Thought you guys might enjoy this one. This is hanging at a friends garage. It is part of motorcycle history. It's a 1966 Yamaha TD1 250cc track bike that actually raced in the 1966 Grand Prix. Needs a couple of small parts to be ride-able but it does run! I drool every time I go over there and see this thing just casually hanging from the ceiling next some of his other collector bikes.

Wow! The pipes are great and you can really see the engine. Not a fan of white frames however, especially on a 2-smoke. That'll be a lot of cleaning!

Looks a lot like a revamped Bimota Tesi.

I like it!!

Ascanio Rodrigo used to work for Bimota and he was deeply involved with the Tesi 2. Most of his Vyrus bikes still remain simlar to the Tesi 2 but with 4V (999 - 1098) engines instead of the 2V ones used by Bimota.

What's very interesting here is that, compared to the application with Ducati engines, the Omega frame is placed "upside down". I'm thinking they did this because the Honda I-4 is much wider than Ducati engines so they wanted to limit the width of the bike.

Brilliant guys, I really hope to see them continue. [thumbsup]

What's cool is they could sell a rolling-chassis kit if they wanted so you could bolt up a Honda 600 (or maybe a 750 if it's the same cases). Good use of the motor that's all that's left after that squid launched it on his third day of ownership.

The colors are similar to the V11 LeMans Tenni

Oddly enough (tho not that much for Italians) the "Tenni" colors are those of the Guzzi 500cc V8 (and a few other race bikes). Omobonno Tenni (greatest guzzi racer) didn't ride a bike in that color.

MK III ABA 2.0 with an APR stage 1 Turbo kit...though I think I would have been going with a G60 head and a G-Ladder or a Bahn Brenner Stage 2 Supercharger.

Close but no cee-gar. ABA with a Kinetic StgII kit. G60 head wouldn't be bad but is essentially just a cam when it comes down to brass tacks. That can be added later pretty easily, the Autotech 268 grind is the lead contender. G-laders are great if you're planning to keep it 100% OEM but it's a flawed design for longevity. It's great that they're cheap to replace but they're also inefficient and don't get to my planned power goals. The BBM charger is another option that I looked at but id like to break 200 wheel and then some, so I'd need to run a stupid small pulley to even get there, and it would be pretty well outside its efficiency range by the time it got north of 185 or so. The StgII should put around 240whp pretty easily with room to grow if I wanted to add a Walbro later to pump some extra go juice. I don't want much more than that because torque steer is already going to be something to deal with until I rebuild and add a diff to the O2O.

Yes Massimo, silly is a good descriptor once she's done. I put the Techtonics catback on today since the old one rusted off last week, it's going to sound really good with an extra bit of displacement and a snail. Kit is coming from Canada, should be shipping this week if the canucks can get their shit together.

it is also a solid lifter head like the old 84 GTi ones that were overbuilt for under power...

I don't want much more than that because torque steer is already going to be something to deal with until I rebuild and add a diff to the O2O.

I have a 4K sitting at work that needs a new ring and pinion, which is essentially what you'de be doing if you were to put in a Peloquin or Quaife LSD if you'de like it.

I put the Techtonics catback on today since the old one rusted off last week,

which mufflers and what size exhaust did you get from TT for putting on? Borla and 2.5?

Title: Re: Work Safe Pr0n
Post by: Artful on November 28, 2011, 05:53:55 AM
What would you want for the 4K? That would definitely be a gearing improvement over the O2O and it would give me time to build it since it's more a matter of when than if in regard to popping the trans.

I went with a 2.5" with a Magnaflow muffler. It's actually pretty quiet, which I'm a big fan of. The intercooler is getting stuffed in the space where the AC condenser used to be so to the casual observer it won't look or sound much different than a stock MkII. Until...

Gotta love that exhaust.

I'm amazed by the craftsmanship, not so much crazy about the actual routing tho: seems unnecessarily long.
