Title: Reno-Fernley W/ ZoomZoom - July 12/13th - JOIN US!!!
Post by: TCK! on June 03, 2008, 04:19:07 PM
With the coming track bike I'd like to begin scheduling some track time for myself. To start it all off I'd like to head back to Reno for some of Zoom-Zooms cheap Group C Novice weekend classes ($160 a day).

Well I'll be driving my truck and am wondering if anyone wants to co-pilot the trip? Share the gas and the laughs in a double header on July 12th and 13th?

Anyone, Anyone, Anyone?

**UPDATED**
Riders:
TCK!
Sidm (Carpooling with TCK! on the way there not way back)

Just FYI my truck is open Sunday night on the return trip if anyone wants to ride up there on their own for just one day and wants a lift home sunday night.

Yeah I only do weekends for track days :D

sooo do you think my lady would kill me if I got another one....  [searches craigslist]   [evil]

I'm just surprised she didn't kill you after you brought home the last one...

I know a guy that's selling a 748, that if you don't want the black rims and are good on the factory ones might be able to drop the price some $$$

I had to turn away a kid today that was my most interested buyer, found out he just got his M1 and this would be his first bike.. I said sorry but I can't sell it to you.

I'm game for one of those days.

I assume you're heading up Friday?  I am considering doing Saturday and then cruise back home Sunday morning on the bike.

I plan on packing the truck up Thursday night, and heading out after work on Friday. I got there at midnight last time and the track was still open for Friday night drag racing so I slept in the truck stop parking lot. When I woke up in the morning there were pickups with bikes all around me with people sleeping.. haha...

I believe there is only 1 piss willy hotel in the town. So if we all decide that we gotta have a roof over our heads then we'd have to commit now to getting a room. If not we could camp out at the track.

I was actually just editing my last post...not sure if i would stay the night Saturday and ride back Sunday morning, or just book it to Sac Saturday night and stay at a friend's, and ride back to SJ in the morning.

Either way, I'm really digging of heading up Friday after work and riding Reno on Saturday.

Best western and Super 8 in Fernley are around $90.  Other option is to head west Saturday night into Reno and blow off some steam...rooms are only $40-$50 for decent places (i.e. Peppermill Hotel $49, Silver Legacy $55, Atlantis...$21!!!).  I'm game for either option

I would but I think at the end of the day saturday I'm going to be super beat. Probably wouldn't be much "steam" to blow off. Once I get to work I'm going to buy my spots for the two days. I'm just not sure if I want to have to pack up all my stuff saturday just to put it all out again sunday... but we'll see...

My old coworker, Jamie, from Munroe's lives out there...got a spare room and a big 'ol garage... might have to consider this one.

If Maria and I go, we'll definitely have room for gear and passengers. Any of the trailers I can score only haul 2 bikes.

It's right before GP, and my surgery is still pending, but damn do I need some throttle therapy!!!! [thumbsup]

Oh yeah.... somebody rent my extra room!!!!

The more I look at this, the more I'm interested... it really sucks having a non-street legal bike in the garage and waiting a month to ride...

Anyone else interested???

*EDIT*

Oh and just to make it clear I'm still 100% going to the July 12th-13th session... I'm just contemplating going to a earlier one if I can find a car pooler.

The only problem with Reno is all the money you save on track time will be wasted on the gas you need to make it all the way out there.   :'(

Anyone doing Keigwins at T-hill on the 13th?

Anyone doing Keigwins at T-hill on the 13th?

Oakland to Thunderhill = 141 mi
Oakland to Reno-Fernley = 247 mi
Millage Difference = 106 mi
Gallons Extra (@15mpg) = 7.07 gallons
Fuel Cost Extra (@4.5$/gal) = $31.8
Round Trip Cost = $63.60

ZoomZoom Weekend at RFR = $320
ZoomZoom Weekend at T-Hill = $380
Cost Difference = -$60

Single Participant Extra Cost for RFR = $3.60
Car Poolers Extra Cost for RFR = -$56.40 (or -$28.20 each)

So if you're going by yourself it cost about $5 more for Reno-Fernley. if you're with a buddy you're paying about $30 more a piece to go to Thunderhill.

Yeah if you do the PTT cost of $99 the price is unbeatable! But it wouldn't be fair to do that comparison...

But seriously guys anyone want to share a ride with me to the PTT in two weeks.. $99 a day.. Zomg...

I'm really hoping I get my rebound/damping nut and fork cap by then and someone wants to ride! [crosses fingers]

***UPDATED***

ZoomZoom has decided to ad the RoadRider 2.0 Course to Saturday the 12th's line up. If any of you are a bit intimidated by the track and looking for an even more basic introduction this is a good opportunity. Hit up ZoomZoom's website if you're interested.

So my bike is completely torn down right now... lets just say to get to the spark plug wires you have to completely dismantle the bike. The fairings alone are about 20 bolts of varying sized hex and Phillips head.

The race is on to get it back together tomorrow night... ugh.

Tonight the fairings go on and she's ready to load into the truck thursday :D

Well another great weekend at RFR... Bike was running like a champ, got my lap timer working, I got moved to B group which was the best thing all weekend, and Phil with Aftershocks tweaked my suspension and really helped keep my rear tire planted.

After I moved to B group I had a little more track to really bump up my speeds. Well at this point my rear end kept stepping out and I had a couple times which felt like close calls. My first instinct was to start questioning the wear on my tires, but it was lunch time and Phil had no line so I decided before I join Valentino in blaming my tires let me get my suspension set a little closer for my weight. It was exactly what I needed for my increased pace. I had a solid performance in B and the only person that passed me in day one was Phil from Aftershocks who made me look like his little B!tch. :D hahaha

Day Two was just as good. I asked to start out in B which was good. First session my lap times were up a little by about 3-4 seconds but it was good for warming up. Then the best thing about being in B group was the little bit of competition if I was able to stage somewhat close to someone of the same quickness. I believe it was session 3 and I got an instructor and another participant who I got to dice it up with which was great fun. Eventually I got around the other participant and it was me and the instructor. It was nice cause he had very similar lines as me but every so often he'd try to make an inside pass on one of those late apexing turns and it was always fun beating him out of the corners :D When I did mess up a bit my bike had more power then his on the front straight so I was able to catch back up if I did lose some time with bad line choice in a corner. But in the end it helped me get my fast lap of the whole weekend a low 2:54.

Overall it was a great weekend, the weather was very nice, a bit warm but cooler than California. The normal afternoon high winds were just a slight breeze both days so that was very nice. I hope Sid had a good time on Saturday rippin' it up on his S4R, maybe he'll post up a couple of his comments about the weekend.

A couple issues that I am having though, I keep dragging my fairings, on what I'm assuming is the curbing. For you experts out there, I'm guessing I'm just too close and I need to back away from the apex?

Next week T-Hill... anyone?

First off, thanks TCK for the ride up and letting my pass out in the truck on Friday night.

It was my first time at RFR, and only word that describes it from my track-nooby perspective: tricky.  I could have definitely used another day at the track to actually ride the track instead of learning it, but all in all, it was a great day.  I finally got a chance to open up the bike, and man, she's a beast!  The Zoom Zoom class-room sessions paid dividends in learning the lines around the track and also in knowing where to brake, where to apex, where to roll on the throttle.  My quickest session (probably 30 seconds behind TCK's times  :P) was in the 3rd time out, but I had a uber-scare where my front tire hit a long tar-snake at the T-10 apex.  My left foot came off the bike and helped keep me on two wheels.  Good thing it did because I had to ride the bike to Reno after the track on Saturday, and home to San Jose Sunday.

The ride to Reno Saturday evening was great, and the Sunday ride home was even better.  Only a few LEO's were out on I-80, the air quality wasn't too bad, and the traffic was light.

All in all, it was another great track experience.   [moto]
