Title: Sightings
Post by: minkman on May 14, 2008, 08:54:34 AM
I saw a yellow DSS Monster coming off the beltline at about 1130 14 May. I think I've seen the same bike cutting through my neighborhood(Cornerstone Park behind CarMax) on occasion.

Moderator, we need a sticky on this thread.

Over the weekend I saw a pair of Black Multistradas at the intersection of Woodlawn and Selwyn.

I also saw a Grey S4 which I've seen around a bit at the intersection of South and East.

AND!!!  I saw my first Chromo at Macs yesterday.

Today around 1-2pm I guess. Sennaster's old bike (I think) headed down hillsborough st.
Not shortly after I picked up a piece of road trash and ended up limping my bike down us1 with a flat tire doing 5mph on the shoulder.

Damn, that sucks.  The flat tire didn't cause you to go down though, right?

No, didn't go down.. Heard a high pitch whining noise and decided to slow down and listen to it. I was coming from I40 to 64 and on the offramp turn the rearend started jumping 6 inches side to side. Stopped immediately and saw the rear tire was completely flat. I waited for traffic to die down, and rode in the grass to walnut st. The gas station only had fix-a-flat, so I ended up jamming a twig into the hole, airing the tire up and heading back to work to fix the tire.

and then later that day I took a ride with my bimmer friend. He decided to play a joke on me I guess. We hit some gravel and he said it went back to paved around the turn... 2 miles of rutted gravel hell later i finally got back on pavement...

and then i got caught in the rain with no front fender.

a fun day for sure..

Barely caught a glimpse of a Dark Monster headed east on 54 headed out of Chapel Hill, right around Meadowmont @ about 5:37 pm today.  I'm pretty sure it was a 696, but i could be wrong.  Anybody here?

Nope, the only place you would see that bike (Ram's) would be in Chapel Hill in the garage of a house in a neighborhood off Culbreth Rd.   [laugh]

But someone definitely stole his riding gear.

Spotted on campus this afternoon...

Dark 696

While I was standing there looking at it, the owner walked up.

I told him about the DMF, so hopefully we'll see him on here.  Super nice guy.

And I have to admit, the 696 did in fact look much better in person than it does in pics.

A couple of minutes ago on the way home from school...

A Dark double-sided swingarm non-696 with what looked like high-mount aluminum cans.

I saw you turn onto Merritt Mill Rd from S. Greensboro and bust a small power wheelie.  Nice.   [thumbsup]

Two sightings yesterday.

On the way back from picking up my S4's plate at Barnett's I followed Shane down 40 for a couple of miles on his Parts Unlimited 999.

That was Jobu that waved at you as you were turning right onto Farrington.

Second was a pearl white S4RS on S Columbia by the University Inn.

High-mount double sided cans.  Looked nice.

Anybody?

There are definitely better commuter weapons than a 999, especially I-40 on Fri afternoons >:(

Hung out with a bunch of multi riders on Sat AM (Dave, a few of them know Donna). Also a guy from Cary/Raleigh named Noel riding a S4RS Tricolore. Beautiful machine. Many of us are meeting again at the triangle italians thing saturday, weather permitting, and may be headed up to VIR on Sunday (8.17). All looking for folks to ride and or watch races with. Amazing, I can remember when there were only a handful of Duc riders around. [moto]

Saw a Monster with a red tank and frame heading west-bound on I-40 between Airport and Harrison yesterday afternoon (Friday, 8/8) about 4:45.

Saw a red ST of some sort with a top case but no panniers heading west-bound on I-40 in the vicinity of the Saunders St. exit  this morning (Saturday 8/9) around 10:30. The Ducati appeared to bi riding in formation with what looked like a SV-650.

Also I parked in my buildings deck today and there was a Chromo sitting there lookin all purty.

Here in Charlotte, on the second Tuesday of every month, a bunch of European/Jap bikes gather at Macs, a local bbq/biker joint. Its mostly Ducs with some cool BMWs and several older bikes.

Here's a pic of something that showed up last time:

The only cool thing about euro bike nite is the bikes. Oh and the food. The people aren't all that great. It tends to be a bunch of people who think way too highly of themselves and strut around.

I'll take more pics next time so you can see the good stuff. There were more cool bikes.

Umm, seriously?  I don't really think that's a fair statement.  I've never thought that of anyone there.  It's a great time with great people.

For example:
This bike belongs to Max.  He also owns a few other 70's 750's as well as a Carbon Dream Mike Hailwood (MH900).  I'm sure he'd be happy to show you his collection if you spoke to him rather than just take a picture of his bike and post it on the internet.

Thats completely your opinion. Mine, and others, are different. I go for the bikes and some of the company. Not everybody there are full of themselves, but there are definitely some.

And, since you seem to not like the fact that i posted up a pic of the bike, i'll take it down. If I had wanted to talk to him, I would have. I happen to just like his bike, didn't really care about the details.

I would certainly like to know who the "others" are.  We have had people from Raleigh come down, as well as the group on the 1098's from Winston Salem who some of us ride with now...all that we met at bike night.

I don't care about you posting the picture.  I'm merely making the point that you think the people aren't friendly, yet you go out of your way to take a picture of a guy's bike and don't talk to him when he's standing next to it?  (He's in the blue jeans and Chuck Taylors in the picture.)

You may want to make an effort if you have such a problem with the riding community here.

Maybe you misunderstood or I didn't make it clear enough. I don't have a problem with the entire riding community. And I don't think everybody is unfriendly (I think my original post came across as that but thats not what I meant). Everybody has opinions about everybody, thats just how life is.

I personally feel that Euro bike night is more just a time for people who own duc's to eat and drink at the same place.  It doesn't strike me as a social gathering.  It's more of a place to look at each others bikes.

This coming from experience and from what i've heard about other Ducati groups.  There are others that seem to genuinely want to hang out with each other as an entire group, and enjoy the presence of each other.

And I for one feel as welcomed at Euro bike night as I do at any other restaurant on any old day.

I attribute this to the nature of M-ROC being so spread out and the fact that M-ROC is just a place where people in the Carolinas can post.  It's not a club and it's not a social group.  I think this is obvious from the lack of posting here.

People instead make their own friends and riding buddies outside of M-ROC and Euro night.  And that's fine.  But we shouldn't pretend that it's like walking into a room with people that are outgoing and want to genuinely want to hang out.

As I said, I don't feel any extra sense of welcome there as I have other places.  Others tend to go out of their way to be welcoming.  Not so much with this group.

That doesn't mean that it's bad.  Just different.  Most people seem to be open to talking if you have questions about their bike.  But I've found it doesn't go much beyond bikes.

Freaking unbelievable.  I'm done with this.

Deepak, I saw your 696 parked on Franklin St in front of Ham's earlier tonight.

Then a little while later, from inside Jimmy John's, I saw you juice the throttle to beat the red light in front of Panera.

The Termis sounded molto bene.   [thumbsup]

God I hate frat dooshes.

Where did you order the chop kit from?  If it was either Madison's or Barnett's I'd be willing to bet that it wasn't the Ducati folks that sent the wrong part, but the dipshits at the dealership that ordered the wrong one.

Matisons.. although I did give them the part number to order, so it very well could have been my fault. Or maybe Ducati just hasnt started making the one for the US market just yet.

havent seen you ripping that multi around yet...

Still waiting on the title so I can get it registered.

It should be here in about a week and a half.

After that you'll be spotting me everywhere.   [thumbsup]

I want one soooo badly, but I have to pay off my 998 first.
They are crazy fun!

Every time I get off one I have a huge grin on my face...

I know.  The couple of times I've ridden it thus far, it's been extremely clear exactly how easy it is to get the front end light.   [evil]

I can start riding it the day the title gets here from the guy I bought it from.  He got the title in the mail from his bank.  Unfortunately he didn't deem it important to take care of getting it notarized and in the mail to me before he went to FL for a couple of weeks.   >:(

Back on topic...

While going to play golf this afternoon, I passed a 996 SPS that was headed north on 751 with a decent sized group of Jap sport bikes.  Had to have been the same one I've seen parked on Franklin St before.

Anyone know who that beauty belongs to?

A cool Paul Smart 1000, only it was fully-faired instead of the Cafe Racer, no-lower-fairing look.  Haven't seen one like it.  Silver fairing and sea-green frame, of course, with round old-school number plates on the lower fairing with, I think, the number 16 on them. Very cool bike, never seen one like it.  Caught up with him leaving the Kangaroo near the intersection of Harrison and i-40 just after 4pm today.  Exchanged a few words and then both of us got onto I-40 heading west-bound. I got off at Airport, he kept going.  Anyone around here?

And yeah, that was on 64 East just before 26.

It was a red DSS 2V with a silver frame and what sounded like cored stock cans.

The guy was wearing a goofy looking backpack and white Converse All-Stars.

He stopped short of the light and waved at us since we had two Ducatis in the back of the truck.

Anybody here?

Ugghh, that was my bike but my buddy was riding it. I was on the blue Speed Triple.
I had the worst day yesterday. Started out my son came inside and told me there was a squirrel out in the yard that looked pretty beat up. Don't know what happened to him but guess who got to put him out of his misery? That's right, and he was a fighter. :'(

So we took off on a small group ride and after about 2 hours people were getting cold. We were riding back to my house with me in the lead when my buddy decides to try to wheelie the Duc. I had been wheelying my triple all over the place. Well, he looped it on hwy 70. It's all make the beast with two backsed up now...

Damn the dislike of the 696 runs deeps. It was actually a nice bike when I had it. Im just glad that I am able to get on a bike again after that.

Oh and if you guys see anyone riding around with a raked up helmet with the faceshield flapping in the wind thats probably me.

I don't see many Monsters around Greenville, SC and the upstate, but saw three today on a quick ride to Caesar's Head.  I was on my Senna (Gray/Red) 750.

1) Red/White S*R on 276 at Cherrydale (looked like one I see on Woodruff Rd. often)

2) Caught a glimpse of a white Monster turning off of 276 in between Traveler's Rest and Marietta

3) Silver/Black S*R w/ Termi's at stop light in Traveler's Rest

Anyone here?

Saw a Monster in Clemson, SC this past weekend heading up US123 towards Liberty. I can't provide much of a description. My college buddies and I were there for the football and our annual drunk fest. I was very inebriated at the time.  [drink]

A couple of us were interviewed for the ESPN pregame show. My buddy's description of Howard's Rock was used. I'm just in the background looking very hungover.  ;D

Ken

A little delayed, but I am bored as hell and stumbled across the sightings in M-ROC.  Went camping at Caesar's Head  State Park for my birthday.....awesome weather, awesome roads, love the mountains.  I could've spent all day going up and down the road into the park...very nice twisties 8)

The monster performed well loaded down with a friend and all the necessary camping gear.  Adjustable suspension still allowed me to carve it up pretty well.  600+miles and back to Charleston.

Yesterday, having dinner and drinks at the Flying Saucer in Raleigh at around 6:30.  Heard, then saw a beautiful Red Monster.  Looked and sounded great, I think it may have been an S4R(S).  Rider was mostly in black if I recall.  Any one of you?

By the way.  I'm finally moved into town, living in Garner over by the White Oaks shopping center.  Really liking it so far, and my bike is getting delivered on Monday, can't wait!

Not monsters, but two other cool bikes I saw were a black Moto Guzzi and a sweet looking 916. Unfortunately, the 916 guy had mechanical problems and needed a lift to get the bike home.

Several sightings...

First, a couple weeks ago in Fayetteville, a yellow old school SS with a half-fairing.  Don't remember exactly when or where it was.

Next, one day late last week, a red 916, 996, 998 on 87 north heading into Sanford.

Today, right at 3 o'clock, a 620 Dark headed north on 87 into Sanford.  Turned right at the Marathon gas station just past the road construction in the median.  Rider was wearing a high viz vest and a black helmet.

Later today, around 5, white new style monster, probably 1100, westbound on Glenwood in Raleigh around Duraleigh.

Any of those belong to anybody here?
