Title: FAQ: DMF Vocabulary--Common Terms and Acronyms
Post by: Spidey on September 01, 2008, 11:27:45 AM
A few common words/phrases are DMF-specific and may require some explanation.

  • "Beast with two backs"  It means "f-u-c-k".  If you don't change the filter in your profile, the board software automatically replaces the f-word with beast with two backs.  For more background and how to turn off your filter, click HERE (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=3228.msg45519#msg45519)
  • Bacon --  There's no real explanation for this one.  People just like bacon.  Click HERE (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=8250.0) for more info.
  • Toaster/Toasty -- On the Ducati Monster List (the predecessor to the DML), a toaster was created.  It traveled the world, passed between forum members.  Toasty's exploits were documented in a lengthy picture thread.  Toasty attended races, events, weddings and traveled the globe.  Toasty's travels continue.  Click here (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=3241.0) for more info.
  • derby -- A DMF member known for informing people when they r-e-p-o-s-t.  The board software auto-filter replaces the world "r-e-p-o-s-t" with "derby."  The real derby can be found here (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=28).

The following list is for commonly used acronyms on the DML, many of which are motorcycle or Ducati or DMF-specific .  It is not supposed to be an exhaustive list of all commonly used internet acronyms.

AFAIK  --  As far as I know
AMA  --  American Motoryclist Association.  AMA generally refers to AMA superbike racing (the US pro series) rather than the organization.

DNA  --  Ducati North America.
DOC  --  Ducati owner's club.  There are many different DOCs on the DMF.
DP  --  Ducati Perfomance.  Official Ducati aftermarket accessories.
DS  --  Dual spark.  The 1000 and 1100 2 valve engine in the M1000 and s2r1000, Hypermotard, Sport Classics and Multistrada.  Also found in some Bimotas (whoohoo!)
DucSea  --  Ducati Seattle.  A DMF sponsor.

Yer "Derby" explanation doesn't make any sense unless you spell out that it means "r-e-p-o-s-t"  ;)
